Hours: ~ 2.5 days/week (20 hours/week)

Pay: £150-200 per day (dependent on qualifications & experience)

Purpose of the Role

We are seeking a creative, skilled and motivated Marketing, Design & Social Media Officer to support Mencap’s marketing, design and social media activity. In this role you will help to produce high-quality visual content, write engaging copy, manage social media channels, schedule posts, and support broader campaigns to increase awareness and engagement with Mencap’s mission.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create graphic design work (print & digital) in Adobe Creative Suite (e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) in line with Mencap’s brand guidelines.
  • Use Canva for quicker turn-around or template-based content.
  • Plan, shoot/collect, edit video content (for campaigns, social media, internal comms) using appropriate tools (Adobe Premiere Pro / After Effects / CapCut or other video editing software).
  • Create, write, edit, proof‑read copy for social media posts, newsletters, blogs, web pages, reports, etc., ensuring tone, style & messaging is consistent and compelling.
  • Develop and maintain the social media content calendar; schedule posts via social media management tool(s).
  • Monitor, respond to, and engage with audiences on social media, collaborating with other teams as needed (e.g. campaigns team, communications).
  • Assist with the visual aspects of campaigns (graphics, banners, online adverts).
  • Support analysis of performance: track metrics such as reach, engagement, video views; produce regular reports with insights and suggestions for improvement.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to gather briefings, source content, images, quotes, case studies etc.
  • Ensure all content meets accessibility standards (e.g. captions/subtitles on videos, alt text on images).
  • Maintain and organise a repository of visual assets (images, video, graphics etc.).
Person Specification
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Strong graphic design skills using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, CapCut or similar).
  • Proficient in Canva, including setting up templates, adjusting designs, etc.
  • Good video editing skills – ability to edit short video clips for social/digital use, add graphics, transitions, captions etc.
  • Strong social media skills: content scheduling, platform knowledge (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, TikTok), monitoring/engagement.
  • Excellent copywriting and editing skills – ability to write clear, engaging, audience‑appropriate content.
  • Ability to manage own workflow, meet deadlines, juggle multiple tasks.
  • Good eye for detail, consistency and brand adherence.
Desirable
  • Experience in the charity / not‑for‑profit sector, or working with social causes.
  • Experience using analytics tools (e.g. SproutSocial, Buffer, Hootsuite, Meta Business Suite, or other social media management tools) and using data to inform content decisions.
  • Basic photography or content production experience (shooting photos / video).
  • Understanding of accessibility best practices in digital communications.
Practical Details
  • Contract length: 6 months – until 31st March.
  • Working days: 2.5 days per week (exact days to be agreed).
  • Occasional work in London office.
  • Holidays: pro‑rata including bank holidays.
