This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with strong market research, data analysis and communication skills. The role will be of particular interest to those with backgrounds in market research, customer insights, market intelligence or other roles working with quantitative and qualitative data or product development.

The postholder will be expected to manage complex data and audience insights, and translate them into intelligence and actions, assisting and liaising with colleagues to support their activities in marketing, communications, recruitment and admissions.

Responsibilities
  • Undertake market research and analysis to support a diverse range of marketing objectives.
  • Use application and enrolment insights, sector trends and other relevant data sources to provide informed recommendations on the development of the University’s subject/course portfolio.
  • Design, test and implement quantitative research using the department’s survey platform.
  • Provide qualitative research expertise and support to our marketing, communications and student recruitment activities by undertaking internal and external focus groups.
  • Work with external research agencies to commission qualitative/quantitative research projects.
  • Produce regular post‑event survey analysis reports providing actionable insights and intelligence to a range of audiences.
  • Undertake regular horizon scanning across a broad range of markets and stakeholder groups – identifying current and potential new developments, threats and opportunities.
  • Provide crucial market intelligence to help develop the university’s course portfolio – ensuring new courses align with industry trends and student demand.
  • Maintain and monitor competitor information to benchmark the University’s position in the market.
  • Provide market research expertise, advice and guidance – verbally and in written reports to a range of key stakeholders.
Requirements
  • A degree, or equivalent.
  • Proven track record of marketing analysis, planning and the implementation of marketing and market research strategies.
  • Experience of commissioning or undertaking qualitative and quantitative market research.
  • Experience of planning, running and reporting on focus groups.
  • Experience of producing and disseminating complex reports.
  • Experience of defining, analysing and interpreting statistical information.
  • Experience of forming and sustaining effective working relationships and networks.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Advanced IT skills, specifically the ability to work creatively with qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and manage competing priorities on own initiative.
  • Experience of marketing or insights roles within the higher education sector would be an advantage.

The appointed candidate will normally be employed through our subsidiary company BCU Support Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Birmingham City University.
