About the Role

At BMLL we process financial data in a process we call parsing. We continually add new financial datasets to our platform whilst upgrading and improving existing ones. Parsing occurs in well defined data pipelines built using a distributed architecture. The engineering of the pipeline is as important as the data transformation process, and we are constantly working to improve its performance and reliability. We curate the data to ensure the highest quality of delivery to our customers.

Every day we consume over 1TB of new data across 750,000 securities to deliver into our platform, our dashboard products and data services. These are accessed by our customers who are dependent on our services for their own workflows.

The majority of our data processing code is written in C++, and Python is used extensively in orchestrating workflows and managing reference data.

Both BMLL’s business and the data production team have grown significantly over the last few years. Therefore we are sub-dividing the team as we go into 2026, in order to specialise on asset classes. As such we are now looking for a new Market Data Team Lead to sit alongside two existing leads.

You will take responsibility for the data production system relating to equities, which has long been the core of BMLL’s offering. This will involve an amount of hands‑on development work, organising developers in Agile sprints, leading scrums, planning both at the sprint level and at the quarterly level alongside Product Team, managing production support rotas, reporting on progress and blockers, and helping to unblock developers by working with other teams and providing guidance and technical expertise. You should expect to spend approximately 50% of your time in hands‑on development, and 50% in team management.

All of this will involve working very closely with the two existing leads, the lead architect and Product and Operations Teams to build and maintain equities data parsers. These parsers ingest and process market data and reference data. You will look to improve processes and reliability for managing these large datasets using the latest AWS technologies, and become an expert in understanding the data and the way we curate and process it.

Responsibilities

• Technical leadership of equities for the data production team, organising work into 2‑week sprints, upwards reporting on progress and blockers.
• Quarterly planning with the Product Team.
• Line management of a small number of developers, to be taken on during the year 2026. (There is an existing team of developers, and there may be an opportunity for further hires into the team.)
• Owning the full scope of assigned development projects such as data parsers, including liaising with the business to gather requirements, designing the solution with the team, and building and delivering completed functionality to production.
• Delivering new data parsers and other data generation processes, primarily in C++.
• Understanding the data, how it reaches BMLL, how we process it and deliver it to customers.
• Communicating with technical teams both within BMLL and sometimes at data providers such as financial exchanges.
• Some second‑line support of the daily parsing processes and the data, shared amongst the team on a rotational basis.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL:

• Demonstrated ability to lead a small team of developers in an Agile environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work with other teams to achieve common goals.
• Experience of working with large‑scale financial data, ideally equities market data direct from exchanges.
• Industry experience of writing production‑level C++ and delivering functioning, well‑tested systems.
• Industry experience of developing on a Linux platform.
• Industry experience of Python.
• Experience of industry‑standard development methodologies such as source code control, unit testing and continuous integration.
• Ability to self‑organise and deliver a project over a period of up to a few months.
