Job description

Belmont Recruitment are currently seeking a Market Attendant to join Blackburn with Darwen Council on a temporary contract. This role will be working 37 hours per week between Monday and Saturday.

Overview

This position will be based within the Markets service and involves supporting the day to day operation of Darwen Market. The successful candidate will be involved in cleaning duties, waste handling, basic labouring, and supporting with security matters when required. You will also act as a first point of contact for traders and members of the public, ensuring excellent customer service is maintained throughout the working day.

Main Duties
  • Cleaning and maintaining floors, surfaces, windows, public and trader toilets
  • Operating mechanical cleaning equipment including sit on machines and pressure washers
  • Maintaining cleanliness and tidiness in the Food Court including clearing tables during busy periods
  • Collecting and transporting waste including recycling separation and compaction equipment use
  • Supporting with basic labouring duties and using equipment for maintenance tasks
  • Assisting security staff when required including supporting with unlocking and locking procedures
  • Providing a first contact response for queries from customers and traders
  • Proactively litter picking and waste clearing within open hours
  • Following allocated cleaning rota and signing off when tasks are completed
Essential Criteria
  • Previous experience in cleaning, waste handling, ideally within a similar setting
  • Ability to use cleaning machinery as required
  • Ability to communicate clearly with members of the public and traders
  • Relevant knowledge / training in Health and Safety and First Aid is desirable
  • Ability to work flexibly across the required weekly operational pattern
