Marine Control Engineer

PD Ports – Partnering with Jackson Hogg

Jackson Hogg are delighted to partner with PD Ports in the search for a Marine Control Engineer to join their marine engineering team.

PD Ports are introducing this newly created role following the arrival of their new vessel, the Emerald Duchess, which has highlighted the need for a dedicated control engineering specialist within the marine team.

This role will provide technical support to the marine fleet (shore‑based), with an initial focus on the Emerald Duchess dredger.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and maintain control systems across the vessel fleet.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system faults to ensure operational reliability and minimise downtime.
  • Support planned maintenance activities and system upgrades for control and electrical systems.
  • Act as the main technical contact for vessel engineering crews, providing hands‑on support and guidance.
  • Manage the service‑level agreement (SLA) with OEM suppliers, ensuring effective communication and performance.
What We're Looking For

We're seeking an experienced engineer with strong technical knowledge of control and automation systems, ideally within a marine, heavy industrial, or process environment.

You'll bring:

  • Proven experience working with PLCs, automation, or control systems (marine or industrial).
  • A solid understanding of electrical systems and instrumentation.
  • Strong problem‑solving and fault‑finding skills with a proactive, hands‑on approach.
  • The ability to liaise confidently with vessel crews, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • A relevant engineering qualification (HNC/HND/Degree) in Electrical, Control, or Marine Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • (Desirable) Experience working with marine vessels, dredgers, or port operations.
