Title: Manufacturing Engineering Manager

Location: Eastbourne

Hours: Monday - Friday 37 hours per week

Salary: Circa £65,000 per annum

The Opportunity

Lead the manufacturing strategy within a world‑class production facility that supplies critical technology across diverse, global industrial sectors. This pivotal management role requires a blend of deep technical expertise in electronics manufacturing and proven ability to build, mentor, and drive high‑performing engineering teams.

Mission of the Role

To develop the most cost‑effective and innovative PCA manufacturing strategy that ensures new products are introduced seamlessly, meeting exacting standards for quality, safety, on‑time delivery, and cost.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement the long‑term manufacturing strategy for printed circuit assembly (PCA) and electrical/electronic assembly.
  • Operational Excellence: Set and achieve manufacturing OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) targets and provide timely technical support to all production cells.
  • Team Development: Strengthen and lead the Manufacturing Engineering organization, focusing on strong recruitment, objective setting, competency development, and creating a strong talent pipeline and succession plans.
  • Process Control: Ensure standard approaches for all New Product Introduction (NPI) projects, including robust execution of DFMEA and PFMEA (Design and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis).
  • Cost & Budget Management: Manage the Cost‑Centre budgets and headcount, providing agreed forecasts and monitoring expenditures against targets.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive the development and adoption of the site's proprietary Production System (VTPS) in conjunction with the Business Process Improvement (BPI) Lead.
Required Knowledge & Experience
  • Education: Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering, or demonstrable experience in a related engineering discipline.
  • Technical Expertise: Significant experience in developing and supporting electronics manufacturing processes.
  • PCA Proficiency: Thorough understanding of surface‑mount (SMT) and through‑hole assembly processes, methods, and equipment.
  • Leadership: Significant experience in a technical and people management role, with strong ability to coach and develop others.
  • Quality Tools: Robust understanding and practical experience with PFMEA and DFMEA.
  • System Knowledge: Thorough understanding of MRP systems (ideally SAP) and competency in Microsoft Office.
