Job summary

Prospec Associates in Oxford is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer for an urgent project on a contract basis outside IR35. You will evaluate processes, design and test manufacturing methods, and collaborate with vendors to remove bottlenecks in high-volume production.

The role requires hands-on experience with bespoke equipment and a strong grasp of lean techniques, FMEAs, process flows, and control plans, supporting internal and external customers and suppliers alike.

Qualifications

• A degree in an Engineering discipline or equivalent.
• Previous proven experience working as a Manufacturing Engineer within automotive or aerospace Tier 1.
• Knowledge of continuous improvement methods and lean techniques.
• Familiar with process techniques and documentation such as FMEAs, process flows, work instructions, control plans etc.
• Hands-on experience with bespoke equipment, tooling, and automation.
• Good understanding of design for assembly and manufacturing constraints for high-volume manufacture.
• Confident with both internal and external customers and suppliers, able to detail requirements and understand issues.

Responsibilities

• Evaluating manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of product design, testing, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators
• Supporting manufacturing demand by relieving bottlenecks and problem-solving production constraints; attending breakdowns and reacting efficiently to escalation from manufacturing teams
• Developing manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors
• Improve manufacturing efficiency by analysing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout
• Assure product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes
• Provide manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labour, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements
• Prepare product and process reports by collecting, analysing, and summarising information and trends
