Job summary

McLaren Automotive Ltd is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to lead process development for new model introductions. You will drive vehicle assembly concepts, virtual-to-physical validation, and process documentation, ensuring traceability and best-practice execution across the plant.

You will work closely with Engineering and Operations to remove bottlenecks, balance lines, and optimise time and motion studies, while shaping layout and flow for ongoing brand-driven production of high-value

Qualifications

  • Bachelor-level Mechanical or Automotive Engineering required or equivalent experience
  • Experience with safe working practices and manufacturing environments preferred
  • Strong problem solving, communication and teamwork skills required

Responsibilities

  • Develop deliverables for new model introductions including vehicle assembly concepts
  • Coordinate virtual environment studies and physical validation transitions
  • Define process sequencing, documentation and traceability methodologies
  • Support HPC data ownership to ensure line efficiency and output targets
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Operations to resolve production bottlenecks
  • Conduct line balancing and time/motion studies across the plant
  • Assist with facility layout and material flow for new models

What to Expect

Our Manufacturing Engineering team are growing to support our business plan. New Models mean more opportunity to develop and create processes and standardisation around how we perfect each and every model we build.

This role is crucial to the success of our Manufacturing operations, as you will be responsible for the processes and complexities of how we build new models – taking them from initial concept designs through prototype stages into series production.

In this role, you will have plenty of variety – everyone in the team will have a wide exposure to the business, including interfacing with concept design and engineering teams across multiple projects, you will witness and influence projects from beginning to end.

What You'll Do

The creation and development of the following deliverables for each new model introduction:

  • Vehicle assembly concept
  • Starting it the virtual environment and transitioning to physical validation & delivery
  • Process sequencing, documentation, and product traceability methodologies
  • To be developed in line with existing Series products & future strategies brand evolution
  • PFMEA
  • To support and drive the implementation of best practices to improve RFT delivery
  • Hours per Car generation & reporting
  • Ownership and maintenance of the Hours Per Car (HPC) data for new model introductions, ensuring plant efficiency and output targets can be achieved.
  • Working with Engineering and Operations teams to identify and resolve production bottlenecks
  • Line balancing
  • Including running time & motion studies across the plant
  • Facility layout & utilisation

Collaborating with Engineering & Operations teams in leading the design of new / amendments to existing layouts and material flow to ensure new models align with the overall plan and vision for the facility

Support and influence the following cross functional business activities to achieve the Project deliverables such as:

  • Concept / Design Reviews
  • Engineering release delivery
  • DFMEA
What You'll Bring

Knowledge, skills & experience:

A degree in mechanical / automotive engineering or similar or equivalent experience in a similar role

Ideally you will have experience with:

  • implementation of safe working practices
  • Display a positive attitude and practice strong work ethics that reflects the mission, philosophy and goals of McLaren.
  • As one of our engineers you will naturally have an understanding and appreciation for low volume, high value performance vehicle production and brand requirements.
  • We work in a fast-paced environment so the ability to act under pressure with calmness, clarity of thought and decisive authority is crucial. Change is a natural part of our business and candidates must be agile to plans and procedures changing.
  • You will need to travel to off-site development facilities, within the UK and throughout Europe, therefore a flexible approach to travel is required
  • You will have the determination to drive forward the business to 'Best in Class' performance standards in line with brand expectations and be a lateral thinker able to think outside of the box to make structured and objective decisions
