Job summary

Lawrence Dean Recruitment Ltd is seeking a capable Production Team Leader for a busy manufacturing site in Letchworth Garden City. You will lead and develop a production team, drive performance, and ensure safe, efficient operations to meet customer deadlines.

The role is permanent, full-time, with a 39.5-hour week and a Thursday-Friday shift pattern. A hands-on leader with a focus on quality, safety and continuous improvement is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience supervising or leading a team in manufacturing.
  • Strong people management, coaching and accountability skills.
  • Experience working with KPIs, targets and production performance.
  • Solid understanding of Health & Safety in a manufacturing setting.
  • Confident addressing performance issues with constructive conversations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive, hands-on and solution-focused.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and motivate a team within a busy manufacturing environment.
  • Manage day-to-day team performance and address performance issues when required.
  • Monitor key manufacturing KPIs including productivity, quality, waste, downtime and delivery.
  • Ensure production schedules are achieved and customer deadlines are met.
  • Promote a strong Health & Safety culture and ensure safe working procedures are followed.
  • Support the investigation of accidents, incidents and near misses and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure products are manufactured to the required quality and customer specifications.
  • Carry out regular quality checks and maintain standards consistently.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce waste and increase efficiency.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives, including 5S and visual management.
  • Manage stock levels, materials and consumables to keep production uninterrupted.
  • Support training and development of team members.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping standards across the production area.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth production runs.
  • Take a proactive approach to resolving operational issues and keeping the team on track.

Production Team Leader

Location: Letchworth Garden City

Hours: Monday to Friday, Double Day Shift, 39.5 hours per week

Salary: £35,800 + 18% shift allowance

Are you someone who enjoys leading people, driving performance and making sure a team is working safely, efficiently and to the right standards?

We're recruiting on behalf of a successful and established manufacturing business looking for a hands‑on and proactive Team Leader to join their operation in Letchworth.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to take real ownership of a production area and team. You'll be responsible for leading and developing a team, managing day-to-day performance, monitoring KPIs and ensuring customer deadlines are met, all while maintaining a strong focus on Health & Safety, quality and continuous improvement.

Skills & Experience Required
  • Proven experience supervising or leading a team within a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Strong people management skills with the ability to motivate, coach and hold people accountable.
  • Experience working with KPIs, targets and production performance.
  • Strong understanding and awareness of Health & Safety within a manufacturing environment.
  • Confident dealing with performance issues and having constructive conversations with team members.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive, hands‑on and solution-focused approach.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise in a busy environment.
  • High attention to detail with a strong focus on quality.
  • Experience of Continuous Improvement, Lean Manufacturing or 5S would be advantageous.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with other departments while taking ownership of your own area.
