Job summary

H&MV Engineering is seeking an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to lead day-to-day commercial activities on large HV data centre projects in the South East. You will collaborate with commercial and engineering teams, clients and stakeholders to drive value on project commercial outcomes.

The role demands MQS experience, strong Excel skills, and proven negotiation ability, with a hybrid work model supported by a collaborative, safety‑conscious culture.

Qualifications

  • MQS experience in large-scale HV projects preferred.
  • Minimum 2-3 years’ MQS experience.
  • Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day commercial and contract activities, including procurement schedule creation and monitoring.
  • Ensure suppliers and sub-contractors are managed in line with company policies and contractual requirements.
  • Use agreed costing systems for allocation, coding, cost analysis, and Tender vs Construction comparisons.
  • Maintain contract progress through regular updates, meeting milestones, processing payment applications, and updating obligations.
  • Manage sub-contractors accounts: selection, appointments, contracts, payments, and variation control, with ongoing liaison with clients and site teams.
  • Lead contract negotiations, participate in handovers with estimating, and escalate value changes or issues to senior management.

About the Role:

We’re looking for a experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to join our team. In this role, you’ll Lead day-to-day commercial activities on large scale high-value HV projects. Your project portfolio will include a number of Data Centre pojects across the South East. You'll work closely with the commercial & engineering teams, clients, and key stakeholders to deliver on the commercial side of projects for H&MV.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage day-to-day commercial and contract activities, including procurement schedule creation and monitoring.
  • Ensure suppliers and sub‑contractors are managed in line with company policies and contractual requirements.
  • Use agreed costing systems for allocation, coding, cost analysis, and Tender vs Construction comparisons.
  • Maintain contract progress through regular updates, meeting milestones, processing payment applications, and updating obligations.
  • Manage sub‑contractor accounts: selection, appointments, contracts, payments, and variation control, with ongoing liaison with clients and site teams.
  • Lead contract negotiations, participate in handovers with estimating, and escalate value changes or issues to senior management.
  • Produce and present monthly cost reports while supporting and mentoring junior commercial team members.
Key Requirements:
  • University Degree in Quantity Surveying, or another relevant field, is desired.
  • Minimum 2-3 Years’ Experience in a MQS position.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office features including excel.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to problem solve in a collaborative fashion.
  • Team player who demonstrates high level of initiative.
