Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP) is seeking a proven senior leader to steer the delivery and governance of the Teesside and Humber CCS infrastructure, reporting to the Board and working closely with shareholders.
The Managing Director will oversee project development, execution and transition to long-term operation, building organisational capability and assuring safe, efficient delivery in a regulated infrastructure context.
Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP) is developing the onshore and offshore infrastructure required to transport CO₂ from carbon capture projects across Teesside and the Humber to secure storage beneath the North Sea. As a key part of the East Coast Cluster, the project will play a significant role in decarbonising some of the UK’s most carbon-intensive industrial regions.
NEP is a joint venture between bp, Equinor and TotalEnergies, headquartered in Darlington. Reporting to the Board, the Managing Director will lead the business through a pivotal phase of development, delivery and organisational growth. With the first phase of the Teesside project under construction and the Humber expansion progressing through development, the role will oversee the continued advancement of this nationally significant infrastructure project.
The Managing Director will provide strategic leadership across project delivery, development and stakeholder engagement, working closely with the bp Operator while ensuring appropriate oversight, assurance and governance. The role will also lead the development of NEP’s organisational capability, building the team, processes and operating model required to transition the business into a long-term operator of critical national infrastructure.
We are seeking a senior leader with a proven track record of delivering major energy or infrastructure projects, ideally across oil and gas, LNG, power or similar capital-intensive environments. You will bring experience spanning project development, execution and transition to operations, alongside strong commercial acumen and the ability to operate effectively at Board level within a joint venture. With excellent stakeholder management skills, you will be capable of building organisational capability, aligning shareholder interests and preparing NEP for its transition into a long-term operator of critical national infrastructure. Experience in regulated environments and project finance would be advantageous, as would an understanding of the carbon capture and storage landscape. The role requires a presence in Darlington three days per week, with travel to other locations as required.
This is an exceptional opportunity to lead a nationally significant infrastructure project at the forefront of the UK’s energy transition. With the first phase progressing towards delivery and the Humber expansion creating further opportunities for growth, the successful candidate will have the chance to shape the future of NEP, build a high-performing organisation and play a pivotal role in establishing carbon capture and storage as a critical part of the UK’s energy infrastructure. It offers a rare combination of strategic leadership, major project delivery and the opportunity to leave a lasting legacy in an emerging industry.
