Company Description

Odstock Medical Ltd (OML) is the leading provider of Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) medical equipment and treatment services across the UK and internationally. As a subsidiary of Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust, OML was established in 2006 to further FES research and development, as well as clinical service. OML provides innovative solutions to improve patient mobility and confidence, particularly for conditions such as drop foot. The Company is located in Salisbury, United Kingdom.

Following the upcoming retirement of our current Managing Director, we are now seeking a successor to continue to lead the Organisation.

This role is full time and based on site at: Odstock Medical Ltd, Laing Building, Salisbury Hospital, Salisbury SP2 8BJ.

Job Purpose

As the Senior Executive and Board member the Managing Director will be responsible for the overall direction and performance of the Company to meet the strategy they help formulate. The Managing Director will be responsible for proposing and implementing structural, marketing, financial, clinical and production plans approved by the Board and reporting progress monthly against these to the Board.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Ensure the Board understand the key business and market dynamics.
  • Help the Board develop the appropriate strategy to meet the goals set.
  • Develop operating plans to deliver the strategy.
  • Build and maintain the team to deliver the plans.
  • Ensure the plans are understood and appropriate objectives are owned by all employees.
  • Closely monitor the operating and financial results against plans and targets and keep the Board fully informed on progress.
  • Oversee the regulatory environment to ensure compliance.
  • Represent OML to its existing and future customers to promote the organisation to secure sustainable growth.
  • Build long term trusting relationships with Patients, customers, employees, suppliers and the Board.
  • Ensure the Company has appropriate governance structures in place and operates ethically and complies with regulations and standards in its operations.
OBJECTIVES
  • To provide FES solutions to patients which can include both direct clinical services, including the products to facilitate this service and provision of those products to third parties for the delivery of the service to patients. Work with Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust (SFT) to benefit both parties.
  • Expand the provision of existing services and products and develop new clinical services and products to benefit patients.
  • Price these products and services to facilitate future developments and provide a long term return to the shareholders whilst ensuring costs are managed and minimized.
  • Maintain, protect and develop the IP owned by SFT and OML for the delivery of FES services.
Qualifications
  • Experience of managing a business with broad management skills. It would be advantageous to have financial, clinical, production and marketing skills, but it is recognized that the Managing Director will most likely have a blend of some of these.
  • The Managing Director must be a people person, capable of directing, guiding and motivating a small group of employees. The Managing Director should be a leader who delegates and holds to account the members of his team.
  • Although OML is a small business, it is complex and involves the provision of Clinical services direct to the public and through Outreach clinics run by OML in the UK. It also sells FES products to other service providers in the UK and through distributors around the world. The largest distributor is in the US. The regulation and governance of all these activities is complex.
  • The candidate will need to balance day to day pressures with the longer term research and development of Clinical Services and new products.
