Job Description

Lead and develop staff within the Quality Control function to achieve high levels of competency and performance. Set clear expectations, demonstrate leadership, and provide meaningful, timely feedback to improve individual and business results.

Empower staff to innovate, eliminate waste, and address problems efficiently, always aiming to meet or exceed customer expectations.

Coordinate work scheduling, planning, and general administration of the Quality Control laboratory to ensure targets are met within agreed timeframes.

Provide leadership and guidance to other business units when needed.

Ensure testing is conducted in accordance with product specifications and external quality control requirements.

Monitor, record, analyze, and report on activities, trends, results, and recommendations related to Quality Control and departmental activities.

Review and approve all testing, reports, deviations, and department SOPs to support the QC department.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ISO, BS, and other relevant standards, ensuring their application in laboratory procedures.

Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the laboratory by implementing process performance and compliance improvement programs.

Investigate and address non-conformances impacting Microbiology Laboratory processes collaboratively with the Manufacturing sciences team to minimize customer impact.

Provide microbiological technical expertise, troubleshooting, training, and support to the laboratory team across all product ranges.

Be responsible for the release of products to internal and external acceptance criteria.

Maintain a safe laboratory environment and ensure compliance with all safety regulations, working with the Site and divisional health and safety teams.

Foster collaborative relationships between internal departments and Quality to improve customer satisfaction.

Manage personnel and fiscal budgets.

Support and promote Thermo Fisher's 4 I values—Integrity, Intensity, Innovation, and Involvement.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in microbiology or related sciences, with experience in medical device, pharmaceutical, or clinical Quality Control.
  • Experience leading a team of scientists.
  • Experience operating BSL2 laboratories; BSL3 experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical device regulations, GMP, EU Regulations, ISO 13485, 11133, and Guide 34.
  • Strong understanding of quality and scientific principles.
  • Laboratory safety experience.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively in a global organization.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
  • SAP Quality Module experience.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to challenge, influence, and build consensus.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
