Market-leading growth in our Financial Services Indirect Tax (VAT) team has created an opportunity for a strong VAT tax professional to join the team. You will be able to own projects and work with the management team to further identify business opportunities. You will have the support of a strong team with proven expertise in this area and the opportunity to progress, learn and accelerate your career.

You will have the opportunity to work with clients in the Financial Services industry as part of a globally integrated network of specialists with high quality economics, tax authority, legal, commercial and technology backgrounds. The work is technically challenging, creative and requires you to work closely with our clients’ businesses.

The opportunity

This is a period of unprecedented change in the tax arena, which is resulting in huge demand for the delivery of a wide range of Indirect Tax Advisory services. Your key responsibilities
  • Enthusiastic manager with ability to create and sustain effective teams
  • Ability to build strong client relationships and evidence of go‑to‑market
  • Ensure delivery of quality work and manage day‑to‑day delivery team operations
  • Help people develop through supervising, coaching and mentoring staff
  • Contribute to people initiatives, including retaining and training international tax professionals
  • Significant involvement in team strategy and operations, managing junior staff development and assignments

  • Build and maintain tax relationships with clients, providing exceptional levels of client service
  • Negotiation skills, able to gain buy‑in and handle challenges
  • Business development skills – identify and convert opportunities by proactively managing existing client relationships and winning new clients
  • High‑level management of technically complex consulting projects, ensuring technical excellence and a practical, business‑driven approach
  • Overall responsibility for quality of client service
  • Manage leads from other areas of the practice
  • Build networks and relationships internally and externally for the team to leverage from
  • Contribute to extracting maximum value for both EY and clients, managing risk appropriately for both client and the firm
To qualify for the role, you must have
  • Ability to build strong client relationships and be commercially aware
  • Negotiation skills, able to sustain opinions and handle challenges
  • Business development skills, able to identify and convert opportunities to sell work
  • Strong practical and commercial experience having advised clients or worked ‘in‑house’
  • Effective time management, ability to remain calm under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills in a range of situations, both written and oral
  • Team player with ability to create, sustain and manage inclusive teams
Ideally, you will also have
  • Appropriate experience working within Financial Services
  • Project management skills – plan and prioritise work, meet deadlines, monitor own budget
  • ACA/ACCA/CA or comparable qualification; or Tax Inspectors with full Technical Training course; or Law qualification; or CTA (or equivalent expertise)
