Job summary

Teamworks in Belfast is hiring its first Engineering Manager for the Inventory Management (IM) team, leading how the group plans, ships, and grows while providing coaching to an apprentice- and early-career focused team. You’ll shape delivery and people development as the IM V2 re-platform progresses.

Based in the UK and within commuting distance of Belfast, you’ll split time between the office and remote work, with in-person leadership a couple of days weekly to support the team and align with

Qualifications

• Strong Ruby on Rails experience, with enough React familiarity to understand the full product surface and enough technical depth to review and give substantive feedback on your team's code
• Proven people management experience, ideally 2+ years of managing engineers across a range of skill levels
• A background of 6+ years as a hands-on software engineer; this is not a coding-heavy role, but it does require strong technical judgment
• Experience partnering closely with other engineering teams; Teamworks runs on strong collaboration between EMs and product owners
• Based within a reasonable commute of Belfast; this is a hybrid role, and in-office presence will be expected a couple of days per week to support the team

• Drive issue assignment, capacity planning, and milestone delivery across a Belfast-based engineering team.
• Build and run individual growth plans for a team weighted toward apprentice and early-career engineers, including tracking apprenticeship learning requirements and helping teammates build enough practical experience to progress through their programs
• Partner with other engineering managers across Teamworks to align on apprentice standards and support cross-team integrations

Job description

I'm Matt Witkowicz, Senior Director, Engineering at Teamworks. Our Inventory Management (IM) team is in the middle of a full re-platform of our IM product, rebuilding it from the ground up from an acquired system into a modern Teamworks product, and it's picking up speed fast.

I'm hiring our first-ever Engineering Manager for this team. You'll take over ownership of how this team plans, ships, and grows, bringing structure to day-to-day execution while giving a talented early-career team the coaching and technical guidance they need to keep accelerating. You'll also help shape how we support the team in Belfast, where this group is based and where in-person leadership will matter.

The Role

What You Must Bring

• You have Infrastructure as Code experience

• You've worked hands-on with AI tooling, some of our IM V2 features are built on AI/LLMs and our team uses AI tooling day to day

• You've had exposure to government programs like grants or apprenticeship schemes, especially in Northern Ireland or the UK

You'd be the first Engineering Manager this team has ever had, building the management foundation from scratch rather than inheriting someone else's system. You'll also get real ownership over a fast-moving re-platform in a growing part of the business, while mentoring a high-potential early-career team through a meaningful stage of their development.
