Job summary

AAB is recruiting a Management Accountant on a fixed-term contract in Glasgow to lead the monthly management accounting cycle for the hotel portfolio. You’ll review profit & loss, balance sheet variances, and manage VAT returns, while coaching the Finance Assistant and driving process improvements.

The role requires hotel accounting experience (ideally managing client portfolios), strong Excel and Business Central skills, and a proactive, detail-oriented mindset.

Qualifications

• Qualified by experience; ICAS/CIMA/ACCA or equivalent pursued.
• Preferably hotel accounting experience with management accounting on a client portfolio; supervision desirable.
• Relevant IT and accounting software skills required.

Responsibilities

• Own the monthly management accounting cycle for the hotel portfolio.
• Review P&L and balance sheet variances and risks; implement actions.
• Prepare monthly/quarterly VAT returns and assist with VAT inspections.
• Coach and support Finance Assistant; improve daily processes.
• Maintain bank reconciliation and accounts payable controls.
• Prepare year-end audit files and liaise with auditors.
• Ensure compliance with policies and robust controls; drive process improvements.
• Handle ad hoc queries from hotel and client teams.
• Support development of systems and controls with Financial Controllers.
• Complete ad hoc accounting and project work.

ROLE PURPOSE

Key duties & responsibilities:

• Full ownership of the monthly management accounting cycle for your hotel portfolio.
• Complete management accounting pack reviews of profit & loss and balance sheet, ensuring variances and areas of risk are identified and actioned appropriately.
• Prepare monthly/quarterly VAT returns and assist with VAT inspections as required.
• Review the work the Finance Assistant, providing coaching and development, and working to improve efficiency of daily processes.
• Overall responsibility for Bank Reconciliation and Accounts Payable controls, supporting the Finance Assistant with process improvements, and in reaching resolution for any outstanding issues.
• Preparation of year end audit files, and liaising with auditors during clients’ external audits.
• Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and audit requirements by maintaining robust controls.
• Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, helping you and your team generate ideas to develop processes and controls.
• Dealing with ad hoc queries and requests from hotel and client teams.
• Assist the Financial Controllers in developing systems and process controls to provide a robust control environment which meets client needs
• Complete ad hoc accounting and project work as required.

Experience & qualifications

Qualified

Qualified by experience, Desirable but not essential Qualified or working towards (ICAS/CIMA/ACCA or equivalent)

Minimum Level of Experience

Preferably hotel accounting experience with management accounting experience (ideally working on a client portfolio) Supervision experience desirable.

Skills Required

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• High level of IT literacy, including strong Excel skills.
• Accuracy and attention to detail.
• Experience of Business Central highly desirable.
• Hotel knowledge would be advantageous.
