Job summary

Transaction Recruitment is helping a fast-growing software business near Tenbury Wells hire a Management Accountant. The role balances core management accounting with wider commercial finance work and includes line management of a Finance Assistant.

You will own the month-end process, produce management accounts, handle payroll-related journals, and provide analysis to support business performance. Hybrid work with 3 days in the office and 2 days from home.

Qualifications

• AAT qualified is strongly desired; ACCA/CIMA in progress will be considered.
• Strong ownership of the month-end process and management accounts.
• Experience in a fast-paced SME environment is essential.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the month-end process and produce management accounts with journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Perform bank reconciliations, VAT returns and payroll journals, aligning payroll data across systems.
• Manage customer invoicing and commissions; investigate variances and provide actionable analysis.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and ongoing performance monitoring across the business.
• Analyze profitability and produce KPI reporting to support key decisions.
• Collaborate with operational teams to strengthen controls and drive process improvements.
• Maintain accurate payroll records and reconcile employee payroll to deadlines.
• Prepare payroll journals and reports; address queries and refine payroll processes.
• Line manage a Finance Assistant and oversee day-to-day transactional finance activities.
• Review purchase ledger, supplier payments and expenses; provide cover during busy periods.

About the Business

A fantastic opportunity to join a fast-growing software business based near Tenbury Wells as a Management Accountant with a salary of £45,000 – £52,000. The business has an ambitious growth trajectory and offers genuine variety, with the role split between core management accounting and wider commercial finance work. You will manage a Finance Assistant and play a key role in providing insight that drives performance across the business.

Main Duties

• Taking ownership of the month-end process, producing accurate management accounts including journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations


• Completing bank reconciliations, VAT returns and payroll journals, while reconciling sales data across multiple internal systems


• Managing customer invoicing and commission calculations, investigating variances and providing clear, actionable analysis


• Supporting the wider business with budgeting, forecasting and ongoing performance monitoring


• Analysing profitability across different areas of the business and producing KPI reporting to support key decisions


• Partnering with operational teams to strengthen financial controls and drive continuous improvement across systems and processes


• Maintaining accurate payroll records, processing and reconciling employee payroll in line with strict deadlines


• Preparing payroll journals and reports, resolving queries and helping to refine payroll processes


• Line managing a Finance Assistant and overseeing day-to-day transactional finance activity


• Reviewing purchase ledger, supplier payments and expenses, providing finance cover during busier periods

What We Are Looking For

• AAT qualified is strongly desired, although candidates studying towards ACCA/CIMA or qualified by experience will also be considered


• Strong month-end experience, with full ownership of the management accounts process is essential


• Proven experience working as a Management Accountant is essential


• Experience working within a fast-paced SME environment is required


• A strong understanding of both P&L and balance sheet accounting is essential
