Job summary

A rapidly growing construction firm is seeking a Management Accountant in Preston. You will manage a finance team, oversee month-end processes, and ensure compliance with VAT and audit requirements. The ideal candidate is ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified or QBE with strong financial accounting experience, preferably from a construction or project-based background. Job description

We’re partnering with a rapidly growing construction and facilities group (c£35m turnover) who are looking to appoint a Management Accountant to strengthen their core finance team. Reporting directly to the Finance Director, you’ll manage two staff and play a key role in both day to day finance and ongoing systems change.

The role
  • Take ownership of the month-end close, producing management accounts, posting journals (accruals, prepayments, payroll, overheads) and providing clear variance analysis to the FD
  • Oversee bank reconciliations, fixed asset register, control accounts, and ensure the balance sheet is accurate and well controlled
  • Supervise the team handling AP and payroll, ensuring processes are robust, payments are accurate, and reconciliations are up to date
  • Take responsibility for VAT, CIS and audit requirements, maintaining integrity of the general ledger and supporting statutory reporting
  • Play a key role in the system improvement project, helping to streamline workflows, embed controls, and modernise reporting
  • Support operational managers with financial insight, helping drive accountability for costs and project performance
