Job description

Based in Abingdon, UK, we are a high calibre team of over 100 people and continue to grow. Reporting to the CFO the Primary Purpose of the role is to provide operational cost control and support strategic financial planning in the company.

Infinitesima was spun out of the University of Bristol in 2001 and has been developing innovative metrology solutions which improve speed and precision in the manufacture of semiconductors. The company's technology combines the 3-dimensional surface detection capability of atomic force microscopy (AFM), with high-speed laser activation and the accuracy of interferometry. The Rapid Probe Microscope (RPM) is protected by an extensive patent portfolio. The company's RPM technology is being used by leading semiconductor equipment companies globally. Semiconductor devices provide the foundations on which progress in the technology sector are enabled. From Smartphones to Artificial Intelligence, 5G communications to autonomous vehicles, all are made possible through advances in semiconductor processes. Scaling these processes requires sub-nanometer measurement of increasingly complex 3D structures to enable more powerful devices.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain cost accounting systems tailored to Infinitesima's requirements
  • Calculate and monitor standard costs for raw materials, labour, and overheads
  • Perform variance analysis to compare actual costs with standards and budgets
  • Analyse changes in product design, raw materials, or manufacturing methods to assess cost impact
Inventory & Production Cost Management
  • Monitor inventory levels and reconcile discrepancies between physical and book counts
  • Track cost of goods sold (COGS) and prepare gross margin reports by product, customer, and location
  • Collaborate with production and R&D/engineering teams to identify cost-saving opportunities and reduce waste
Budgeting & Forecasting
  • Assist in preparing budgets and financial forecasts based on cost trends and operational data
  • Support strategic planning with cost models and breakeven analysis
Reporting & Compliance
  • Prepare detailed cost reports for management, highlighting trends and profitability drivers
Direct Reports
  • First degree - finance/economics/STEM preferred, Qualified accountant CIMA or ACCA preferred
  • Familiarity with UK-specific accounting standards and tax laws.
Experience
  • 5-7 years in cost accounting, ideally in semiconductor equipment or high-tech manufacturing environment
  • Experience with ERP systems and advanced Excel functions (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc)
Skills & Attributes
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective communication skills to present financial data to non-financial stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing and cost control strategies

Salary Range: £52-£65K Dependent on experience
