Overview

Managed Equipment Service Contract Manager – lead, inspire, and drive the MES for the Division of Imaging across the Trust. The postholder will engage with senior stakeholders, ensure timely delivery of major equipment replacement programmes, drive compliance, oversee maintenance and asset availability, provide helpdesk support and staff training, and lead a business support team including the MES Coordinator and Business Support Lead.

Main duties
  • Collaborate with the Division of Imaging senior team, Estates, Trust colleagues, PFI Partners, and the MES provider to oversee the equipment replacement plan, ensuring alignment with timelines and contract terms.
  • Interpret and resolve complex contract-related issues and communicate with stakeholders to address queries. Act as the escalation point between the MES provider and the Division of Imaging to manage incidents of equipment downtime and restore operation.
  • Implement project management tools to address deviations from DoI contracts and SLAs across Imaging services with internal and external partners.
  • Lead and participate in working groups essential for plan execution and contractual provisions, including MES Investment Committee, Facility Infrastructure User Group, Works Group, and IS Quality Assurance meetings.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, including senior clinical staff, for the selection, procurement, and commissioning of new equipment or service delivery models to ensure contractual compliance and operational readiness.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Essential: Master’s or equivalent (Chartered) qualification in a business-related subject or in programme management, law, finance or engineering.

Desirable

  • Project Management Qualification.
  • Accreditation in contract management from the Government Commercial College or other recognised contract management certification.

Knowledge, Training, Experience

  • Essential: Significant experience of managing all aspects of large, complex, multi-stakeholder implementation programmes within live operational environments.
  • Proven ability in contractor management and delivering outcomes against programmes and budgets.
  • Negotiating successful outcomes with senior parties; managing and influencing a broad range of individuals up to board level.
  • Experience in contract disputes, performance monitoring and reporting.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of managed equipment service contracts.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of medical equipment developments and clinical/technical applications.
  • Experience delivering NHS change programmes and replacing medical imaging equipment.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to compile concise management reports for immediate and senior management.
  • Ability to present complex technical issues clearly to non-specialists.
  • Proficient IT skills and willingness to learn additional software as required.
  • Strong communication with a wide range of stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to manage conflicting viewpoints and influence internal and external colleagues to deliver outcomes.
  • Change management capability and contract/performance management skills, including managing third-party providers.
  • Knowledge of NHS procedures including standing financial instructions.
