Job description
Position Overview

Male or Female Child Support Worker required to assist a young nonverbal child with Autism, Pica and Learning Disabilities living in the Cambuslang area.

Responsibilities
  • Provide one-to-one care and assistance within the child's home and the community, including attending to personal care and participation in social activities.
  • Attend all personal care needs: changing nappies and toileting, dressing, occasional showering/bathing and feeding when required.
  • Occasionally assist with medication.
  • Prepare meals and snacks when required.
  • Support in social activities such as park visits and swimming.
  • Occasional pick‑up from day respite unit (weekends).
  • Provide one-to-one supervision to keep the young person safe and prevent participation in dangerous behaviour at home and in the community.
  • Manage some challenging and self‑injurious behaviours.
  • Encourage the young person to engage in new social activities and assist with independent living skills.
  • Provide therapy including deep pressure massage (training given).
  • Perform other daily living tasks to promote independent living and encourage life skills.
  • Driver essential – access to mobile vehicle or mileage allowance paid.
  • Take a proactive and innovative approach to support and encourage the individual to be involved in activities suited to their needs.
  • Be confident and patient in dealing with children who present with challenging behaviour at times.
  • Build a warm, friendly, energetic, patient and supportive relationship with the individual.
  • Exhibit good interpersonal and communication skills; interpret and understand the non‑verbal child's needs.
  • Be flexible and reliable.

Hours of Work

Casual contract between 4–9 hours per week, with flexibility on the number, timing and distribution of hours throughout the month.

Days and Times
  • Occasional weekday evenings
  • Weekends and school holidays
Hourly Rate

£12.60 per hour.

Benefits

Paid for hours worked on a PAYE basis; entitled to statutory rights such as paid holidays and statutory sick pay (where eligible).
