Job summary

Job Overview

Male or Female Child Support Worker required to assist a young nonverbal child with Autism, Pica and Learning Disabilities living in the Cambuslang area.

Responsibilities
  • Attending all personal care needs, changing nappies and attending to toileting needs, dressing and occasional showering/bathing and feeding when required.
  • Occasionally assisting with medication.
  • Preparing meals and snacks when required.
  • Supporting in social activities such as park visits, swimming.
  • Occasional pick up from day respite unit (weekends).
  • One‑to‑one supervision to keep the young person safe and prevent participation in dangerous behaviour within the home and in the community.
  • Managing some challenging and self‑injurious behaviours.
  • Encouraging the young person to engage in new social activities and assisting with independent living skills.
  • Therapy including deep‑pressure massage (training given).
  • Other daily living tasks to promote independent living and encourage life skills.
  • Driver essential – access to mobility vehicle or mileage allowance paid.
  • Must take a proactive and innovative approach to support and encourage the individual to be involved in activities suited to their needs.
  • Must be confident and patient dealing with children that present with challenging behaviour at times.
  • Good interpersonal skills and communication skills are essential as the individual is non‑verbal so interpreting and understanding their needs is crucial.
  • Must be flexible and reliable.
Qualifications & Requirements

Experience is desirable; however, it is more important that the candidate has a warm and friendly nature, is energetic, patient and has a true desire to work within a caring role and build a lovely supportive relationship with the individual.

Working Hours

Casual contract between 4 – 9 hours per week (there is flexibility on how many hours are worked and when over the month).

Days and Times

Occasional weekday evenings, weekends and school holidays.

Pay

£12.60 per hour.
