Job Title: Assessor (Makeup Artistry)

Location: Lessons to occur in our training centre LITC Barking Centre, Barking, London or LITC, Brixton, South London.

Reporting to: Head of Hair and Beauty.

Terms: In person teaching (with agreed remote teaching if required)

Salary: Competitive day rate, to be discussed at application / interview.

Job Summary

An Assessor working in further education for LITC is responsible for professionally delivering assessment services in line with the Joint Awarding Bodies’ Guidance for Internal Verification, the NVQ Code of Practice, and the awarding body’s requirements. The role involves assessing learners, recording progress, and ensuring timely completion of all components of the Qualification Framework.

We are seeking a passionate, skilled, and experienced Make‑Up Artistry Assessor/Tutor to teach and assess adult learners studying for the VTCT Level 3 Make‑Up Artistry qualification. This role will involve delivering high‑quality instruction, supporting students in their learning journey, and ensuring they meet the required standards of the qualification. The successful candidate will have a strong background in the make‑up artistry industry, along with the ability to inspire and guide students through both practical and theoretical components of the course.

Key Responsibilities
Teaching
  • Deliver engaging and interactive lessons in make‑up artistry, covering all relevant modules of the VTCT Level 3 qualification.
  • Plan and prepare lesson plans, schemes of work, and resources that align with the curriculum requirements and learners’ needs.
  • Demonstrate a variety of practical techniques and ensure students develop industry‑standard skills in areas such as corrective make‑up, fashion, media make‑up, bridal, and special effects.
  • Provide instruction on health, safety, and hygiene practices in make‑up application, product knowledge, and professional conduct in the beauty industry.
Assessment
  • Assess learners’ practical and theoretical work through formative and summative assessments in line with VTCT guidelines and standards.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students on their progress, strengths, and areas for improvement.
  • Maintain accurate records of student assessments, attendance, and progress, ensuring compliance with VTCT and internal policies.
  • Conduct practical assessments, written assignments, and portfolio reviews, supporting learners in achieving their qualifications.
Learner Support
  • Offer guidance, mentorship, and academic support to learners throughout the course, addressing individual learning needs.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement, confidence, and success.
  • Provide career advice, including portfolio development, employability skills, and industry insights.
Professional Development
  • Stay up to date with current trends and techniques in the beauty and make‑up artistry industry.
  • Attend relevant training, workshops, and professional development opportunities to maintain teaching and industry expertise.
Quality Assurance and Meetings
  • Attend 1 day (max. 8 hours) of activity per month for quality assurance processes and procedures.
  • Participate in standardisation meetings, team meetings, 1‑2‑1 meetings, company self‑assessment day, and CPD training days.
Observation and Documentation
  • Be available for observation of relevant working practices at least twice a year.
  • Submit required assessment paperwork on time, working with the Head of Quality Administration to provide paperwork requested.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
  • Minimum of a VTCT Level 3 qualification or equivalent in Make‑Up Artistry or a related field.
  • Significant experience working as a professional make‑up artist, with a diverse portfolio demonstrating expertise in various make‑up applications (e.g., bridal, fashion, editorial, special effects).
  • Teaching or assessing qualification (such as TAQA, A1, or equivalent) or willingness to achieve within the first year of employment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with adult learners.
  • Knowledge of current trends and techniques within the make‑up and beauty industry.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Effective up‑to‑date knowledge of the Joint Awarding Bodies’ Guidance for Internal Verification, NVQ Code of Practice, and awarding body’s requirements.
  • Previous teaching or tutoring experience in a vocational setting.
  • Experience delivering VTCT qualifications or similar qualifications in beauty/make‑up.
  • A passion for teaching and mentoring adult learners.
  • Knowledge of e‑learning platforms and digital teaching tools, particularly Google Classrooms.
Requirements
