Job summary

Essential Employment is seeking a Major Planning Projects Officer in Guildford on a full-time temporary basis. You will lead on the management and assessment of strategic, major and complex planning applications, coordinating input from consultees and driving PPAs to successful determinations.

You will negotiate with developers and stakeholders, prepare committee reports, and represent the client at meetings and hearings. A strong planning background and mentoring capability are essential.

Responsibilities

• Lead on the management and assessment of strategic, major and complex planning applications.
• Negotiate with applicants, developers, consultants and stakeholders to achieve high-quality planning outcomes.
• Manage Planning Performance Agreements (PPAs), ensuring projects progress efficiently from pre-application stage through to determination.
• Prepare detailed committee reports, recommendations and presentations for Planning Committee meetings.
• Represent the client at meetings, public consultations, hearings, inquiries and appeals where required.
• Provide professional planning advice to applicants, councillors, internal departments and external partners.
• Coordinate input from statutory consultees and other specialist teams.
• Monitor development proposals to ensure compliance with planning policy, legislation and approved conditions.
• Support the delivery of strategic planning objectives and regeneration priorities.
• Mentor and provide guidance to junior planning officers where appropriate.
