Job summary

Vale is seeking a Mechanical Technician to join our Nickel Refinery maintenance team. You will deliver preventative maintenance on mechanical systems, perform fault finding and repairs, and assist with installation and commissioning of equipment.

Applicants should have completed a full four-year mechanical apprenticeship (Fitter/Machinist) and hold a BTEC National or Higher National. Strong teamwork and proactive problem-solving are essential.

Responsibilities

• Attend to reactive/corrective maintenance and fault finding; perform repairs/replacements/calibration.
• Install new systems/equipment and assist with commissioning.
• Support production units and maintenance planning; participate in call-out rota.
• Work at height and in confined spaces while using BA equipment.

Job description

As a Mechanical Technician, you will join an established Mechanical Team within our Nickel Refinery which is an upper tier COMAH site and be responsible for the delivery of preventative/proactive maintenance of Mechanical systems and its sub or support systems, attending to any reactive/corrective maintenance that arises, fault finding, completing any repairs/replacements/calibration or set-up, installation of new systems/equipment, commissioning alongside operations on returning to service.

This role requires an experienced, industrial, mechanically biased, maintenance technician who is able to demonstrate and execute a wide range of practical Mechanical skills, ranging from basic workshop skills including working on mechanical rotational equipment to working out on plant in a methodical & logical manner such that reactive faults can be identified and repaired safely, alongside working proactively on planned maintenance routines scheduled by our Maintenance planner.

The role supports the production units by utilising specialist knowledge and skill to undertake scheduled and corrective Maintenance work as well as responding to breakdowns during normal and outside normal working hours (Call out Rota).

The role requires the ability to work at height and in confined spaces together with the wearing of BA equipment to facilitate confined space entry when necessary.

Requirements

The ideal candidate must have served a full mechanical apprenticeship and have completed BTEC National/ Higher National certification.

Must demonstrate excellent teamwork, communication skills, and a proactive approach to problem‑solving.

Displays good attention to detail, basic IT/record‑keeping ability, and a willingness to support continuous improvement.
