Location: Royal Liverpool Hospital, Liverpool. Job Ref: 287-CEF-290-25-A. Permanent, full time, 37.5 hrs/week. Salary £31,049 – £37,796 + RRP £5,000 per annum. Closing date 18/12/2025.

Job Overview

We are looking for a highly motivated, professional Maintenance Technician (Mechanical) to join our busy Estates and Facilities team. The role requires prioritising workloads, identifying opportunities for improvement and supporting efficient service delivery.

Main Duties

• Undertake mechanical repairs, planned maintenance and improvements to Trust buildings in compliance with statutory regulations and codes of practice.
• Install mechanical new work.
• Support a multi‑skilled maintenance team and participate in emergency on‑call rota.
• Make repair calls to approved contractors.
• Analyse faults and carry out rectifications to ensure service continuity.
• Maintain appearance in line with Trust dress code, uphold values, and build respectful, inclusive relationships.

Person Specification
Qualifications – Essential
  • Completed a 4‑year apprenticeship (City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3) or equivalent national qualification (Level 3 or above).
  • Mechanical or plumbing training for electricians, or electrical training for mechanical technicians.
Qualifications – Desirable
  • Continuing training to latest Electrical Regulations.
  • Competent person – Medical Gas; authorised person for electrical training for technicians; Legionella responsible person training.
  • Qualification in building services, Legionella/Water systems, Asbestos awareness.
Experience – Essential
  • Demonstrable track record in building services maintenance.
  • Multi‑skilled capability across mechanical, building and electrical maintenance.
Experience – Desirable
  • Experience in a large acute hospital setting.
  • Risk assessment completion, manual handling competencies.
Knowledge – Desirable
  • Basic electrical knowledge.
  • Understanding of building maintenance issues.
  • Knowledge of NHS working in clinical areas and estates maintenance.
Skills – Essential
  • Complex fault diagnosis ability.
  • Ability to plan and prioritise workload.
Skills – Desirable
  • Planning and organisational skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Self‑motivation and ability to work under pressure.
  • Proficiency with risk and asbestos register systems; BMS experience.
