Job summary

A leading NHS Trust in Hull is seeking a Multi-skilled Maintenance Technician with a mechanical bias. The role involves the repair and maintenance of various mechanical systems, adherence to health and safety regulations, and participation in an on-call rota. Candidates must possess a recognised trade apprenticeship and relevant maintenance experience. This is a site-based role requiring a valid driving licence.

Maintenance Technician (mechanical)

Multi-skilled Maintenance Technician - Mechanical Bias

To carry out the repair, maintenance or installation of all plant, equipment, systems and building structure/fabric associated with all Trust properties. This will consist of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), testing and calibration, fault finding, emergency response, defect correction and minor works. This work will be undertaken on a partial shift system.

Please note that this advertised vacancy does not meet the UKVI eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa and therefore HUTH would not be able to issue a Certificate of Sponsorship for this role

Main duties of the job

The suitable candidates shall have successfully completed a recognised mechanical craft apprenticeship or relevant experience.

All applicants shall have suitable relevant maintenance experience (previous NHS experience would be an advantage) and be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of Health & Safety Legislation and Safe Working Practices.

The role will involve routine maintenance, installation and repair work on a wide range of mechanical engineering systems.

  • Domestic hot and cold water systems and plumbing services.
  • Steam boilers, steam and condensate systems.
  • Low temperature hot water heating systems, pumps and controls.
  • Ventilation, air handling and chilled water systems.
  • Hydrotherapy pool and water treatment plant maintenance.
  • Compressed air systems.
  • Site transport vehicle maintenance.
  • Legionella and pseudomonas control.
  • Compliance with current water regulations.
  • Medical gas systems

The successful candidate will be required to participate in an out-of-hours on-call rota and a partial shift system. Must be able to attend within 30 minutes.

The post is site based but the successful candidate may be required to work at any Trust property and therefore is required to hold a full driving licence.

Education/ Qualifications
  • Recognised trade apprenticeship
  • BTEC/HNC/Diploma in Building or Engineering or equivalent City & Guilds qualification
  • Intermediate practical and theoretical knowledge
  • Additional trade relevant certification e.g. Refrigeration, Pressure Systems, Fixed Wiring. Accredited HTM Competent Person Course. Resuscitation/First Aid Training.
  • Infection Control Awareness Training
Knowledge, Training & Experience
  • Post apprenticeship experience in non-routine maintenance of complex engineering plant and equipment
  • Broad understanding of other trade disciplines.
  • Experience of liaison with and supervising building and engineering contractors.
  • Previous experience in a hospital maintenance

  • Good communication and inter-personal skills.
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently in difficult environments and under pressure.
  • Knowledge of statutory legislation and relevant Codes of Practice.
