Job summary

Aviation electrical maintenance role for an experienced Electrical Technician to join a technical service team. Focus on frequency converters, GPUs and ground support equipment with workshop and field work across the UK and occasional overseas travel.

Requires NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, 2391/2394/2395 inspections, 18th Edition, GCSEs in English/Math/Science, and a UK driving licence. Travel and hands-on fault-finding are essential.

Qualifications

  • Must have NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in electrical installation/maintenance.
  • Qualified in electrical inspection/testing such as 2391/2394/2395 and 18th Edition.
  • GCSEs including English, Maths and Science at grade C/4 or above.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out electrical maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair on power-related equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical faults using drawings and diagnostic equipment.
  • Inspect, test and sign off repaired equipment in workshop and at customer sites.
  • Support commissioning of electrical and ground power equipment.
  • Represent the organisation professionally at customer sites.
  • Ensure work complies with health and safety requirements.
  • Maintain workshop standards and a clean, safe environment.
  • Complete service reports and technical documentation accurately.
  • Take ownership of electrical tasks and ensure high-quality work.
  • Travel to customer locations; occasional overseas assignments.

About the job Maintenance Technician- Electrical
About the Role:

We are recruiting for an experienced Electrical Technician to join a well-established technical service team supporting specialist power-related electrical and electronic equipment within the aviation sector.

The role will primarily focus on frequency converters, aircraft fixed ground power systems, Aviation Ground Power Units (GPUs) and associated Ground Support Equipment (GSE).

This is a hands-on technical position involving a combination of workshop, customer-site and office-based responsibilities. The successful candidate will have a strong electrical background and take a methodical approach to electrical maintenance, fault diagnosis, testing and commissioning. Electrical Technician JD

Key Responsibilities:
  • Carry out electrical maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair activities on specialist power-related equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical faults using technical knowledge, electrical drawings and appropriate diagnostic equipment.
  • Inspect, test and sign off repaired equipment both within the workshop and at customer locations.
  • Support commissioning activities relating to electrical and ground power equipment.
  • Represent the organisation professionally when attending customer sites.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company and customer health and safety requirements.
  • Maintain high workshop standards, ensuring a clean, organised and safe working environment.
  • Accurately complete service reports, expenses and associated technical documentation.
  • Take ownership of electrical tasks and ensure work is completed accurately and to the required standard.
  • Maintain accountability for company-issued tools and equipment.
  • Travel to customer locations when required, including occasional assignments away from home and overseas. Electrical Technician JD
Qualifications & Experience:

The successful candidate will require:

  • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation/Maintenance or a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, preferably completed through a formal apprenticeship.
  • A recognised Level 3 Electrical Testing & Inspection qualification, such as:
  • City & Guilds 2391
  • C&G 2391-10
  • C&G 2394/2395
  • 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations.
  • GCSEs in English, Maths and Science at Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical testing equipment.
  • Minimum 2–3 years' experience in a similar electrical position.
  • Strong knowledge of Aviation Ground Power Units and Ground Support Equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of electrical tasks.
  • Ability to obtain relevant military and airside security clearance, including providing a clean five-year employment and reference history.
  • Willingness to travel, work away from home and undertake occasional overseas assignments. Electrical Technician JD

  • JIB Approved Electrician status.
  • Good working knowledge of statutory and non-statutory health and safety requirements, particularly those relating to electrical systems. Electrical Technician JD
Relevant Industry Experience:

Candidates with electrical maintenance, testing or fault-finding experience within the following environments would be particularly relevant:

  • Ground Power Units (GPU)
