Job summary

A healthcare provider in Bury St Edmunds is seeking an Estates Technician to ensure the engineering and building infrastructure is maintained to high standards. Job description

The Estates department are responsible for ensuring the safety and continuity of the Engineering and building infrastructure across all West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust owned sites.

The Estates Technician will form a core part of this service delivering specialist engineering knowledge and skills to ensure plant and systems are maintained and operated to the highest possible quality.

Main duties of the job

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

To provide technical assistance for mechanical / electrical staff and contractors ensuring compliance with Trust safety standards and procedures.

To undertake complex fault diagnosis on mechanical and electrical services and fault rectification, maintenance and M&E installation work for the Trust.

To undertake special departmental projects as identified by the Estates Manager, Estates Officers and or Team Leaders.

Be fully conversant on the Estates decontamination equipment for washer disinfectors and sterilisers. To undertake all aspects of testing, insurance inspections and monitoring of decontamination equipment, pressure vessels and lifting equipment.

To undertake the duties of an Authorised Person (AP) or Competent Person (CP) for specific engineering disciplines as required to do so by Estates Managers.

To deputise for Estates Team Leaders at times of absence when delegated the authority to do so.

The post holder will report to the Estates Team Leaders on a daily basis.

Person Specification
Education and qualifications
  • Recognised apprenticeship in a mechanical or electrical trade
  • C&G or NVQ Level 3 in an Engineering discipline or equivalent.
  • Evidence of CPD
  • BTEC, ONC/HNC in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience e.g. time served tradesman.
  • Current Competent Person certificate in various technical systems such as low voltage electrical, medical gas, decontamination, etc.
  • Electrical AM2
Experience and knowledge
  • Previous experience of working in an engineering and/or building maintenance role
  • Evidence of a maintenance background with skills to carry out minor mechanical/electrical/building repairs
  • Previous experience and knowledge of Database and spreadsheet systems
  • Experience and Knowledge of Microsoft office programmes.
  • Experience of working in an Acute Hospital environment
  • To have knowledge of: Low Pressure Hot Water Systems HTM documents including: HTM 01 Decontamination, HTM 03 Heating and ventilation, HTM06 Electrical services. Knowledge of Electrical Safety Code for LV systems. Knowledge of HTM 06 - Low Voltage systems
