Job summary

A manufacturing company in Scunthorpe is seeking a Maintenance Technician to ensure the effective maintenance of plant and equipment. The ideal candidate will have experience in mechanical and electrical engineering, a strong understanding of health and safety practices, and the ability to troubleshoot and solve problems under pressure. The role involves 12-hour shifts with a focus on supporting production and responding to maintenance needs efficiently.

Qualifications

  • City & Guilds 214 Mechanical Engineering / HNC / ONC or equivalent.
  • NVQ 3 Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Time served apprenticeship within a production/manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to high demands of maintenance for plant, equipment, and facilities.
  • Proactive in adherence to all Health & Safety procedures.
  • Support production requirements on injection moulding machines.

Skills

Good mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical knowledge
Ability to read diagrams and drawings
Experience working with automation and assembly equipment
Self‑motivated with a desire for self‑improvement
Ability to find faults and problem solve

Job description

Artifex Interior Systems is pleased to confirm the below opportunity within our business:

Maintenance Technician

Working hours for this position will be varied 12-hour shifts, between 3-4 per week, alternating between days and nights (06:00-18:00 / 18:00-06:00). This averages out to 40 hours per week.

Main purpose of the job

A multi-skilled position working as part of the maintenance team responding to the high demands of the site in terms of general, routine and unplanned maintenance of the plant, equipment and facilities. Rapid response and rectification of problems is critical to ensure that targets are met.

Main missions and results
  • Ensure adherence to all Health & Safety procedures. Be proactive in the raising of potential H&S issues and the development of personal safety awareness.
  • Ensuring all work is carried out in line with company policies and procedures.
  • Supporting production requirements working on a range of injection moulding machines of varied tonnages, for repairs and problem fault finding.
  • Adjustments, set‑up, maintenance of laser cells, PU cells, assembly and checking automation cells.
  • Undertake planned service work as requested, supporting the plant start-up and shutdown procedure on a weekend rota.
  • Installation work and continuous improvement duties around the site.
Preferred skills and experience
Essential
  • City & Guilds 214 Mechanical Engineering / HNC / ONC electrical and mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • NVQ 3 Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Time served apprenticeship within a production / manufacturing environment.
  • Good mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical knowledge with ability to read diagrams and drawings.
  • Experience of working with automation and assembly equipment.
  • Working knowledge of H&S requirements in an engineering environment.
  • Able to work to tight timeframes and continue to perform at a high standard under pressure.
  • Self‑motivated with a desire for self‑improvement.
  • Able to work successfully within a team and under own initiative.
  • Ability to find faults and problem solve.
Desirable
  • 18th Edition Electrical Installations.
  • Overhead crane licence.
  • 6 and 3 axis robot experience.
  • Working knowledge of Lean Engineering and CI techniques.
  • Working knowledge of Plastic Injection Moulding machinery.
