Job Description

Are you ready to make a real impact in the housing sector? Join our Property Maintenance team at Gentoo in the role of Maintenance Surveyor (known internally as a Property Inspector) within our Damp and Mould team. We are dedicated to supporting our customers to live in safe, healthy homes and ensuring any reports of damp or mould are dealt with efficiently and effectively. That's why we're looking for someone with expertise in identifying the causes of damp and mould, who can confidently recommend solutions and take action to resolve issues.

As a key player in our repairs service, you will be at the forefront of investigating reports of damp and mould, understanding their causes, providing invaluable advice to our customers, and raising repair orders to keep their homes safe and comfortable.

Training will be provided on our IT systems used for completing reports from inspections and damp meter used by surveyors. The role is subject to a basic DBS check paid for by Gentoo. A full UK driver's licence is required.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out detailed full property inspections with a key focus on investigating reports of damp and mould, identifying causes and recommending effective and cost‑efficient repairs/solutions.
• Provide appropriate guidance and information to customers as required.
• Identify any potential asbestos‑containing materials, coordinate asbestos survey requests, and analyse results before issuing work or granting any permission requests.
• Raise maintenance works orders to properties where required (both internal & sub‑contracted work) with relevant SOR, ensuring effective recording and reporting and ensuring all paperwork is completed accurately and on time.
• Identify building defects and provide Building Technical Advice as required to members of the group as necessary, ensuring a high‑quality, customer‑focused service.
• Liaise with management regarding outcomes and results of inspections and trend analysis.
• Support the management team as required, demonstrating competence in non‑trade specific tasks and flexibility to assist with business needs.

Essential Criteria

• Full UK driving licence.
• ONC/HNC in Construction, or equivalent work experience in a construction‑related field.
• Practical knowledge of Building and Planning Regulations, Highway Regulations and Party Wall Act.
• Experience detecting building defects and identifying causes of damp and mould.
• Knowledge of asbestos awareness; the successful candidate will complete an asbestos awareness course provided by Gentoo.
• Providing a customer‑focused service.
• Excellent literacy, numeracy, technical and IT skills, with experience using a handheld device.
• Ability to work in internal and external environments.
• Excellent organisational, planning and negotiating skills.
• Planning and coordinating work.

Desirable (Not Essential)

• Experience applying damp and mould treatment products.
• Knowledge of asbestos and the impact/processes around property repairs.
• PASMA qualification.
