Job summary

A leading craft brewery in Scotland is seeking a Maintenance Support Engineer responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of all plant and equipment. The role involves maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing machinery to enhance production efficiency while adhering to safety and health standards. Candidates should have proven experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and a Level 3 qualification in engineering. Additional training and development opportunities will be provided.

Job Purpose

The Maintenance Support Engineer will be responsible for the smooth operation of all plant and equipment within the facility. You will maintain, troubleshoot and repair machinery, systems and equipment to maintain safety functionality, maximise production efficiency, minimise downtime whilst following site HSEQ standards and guidelines.

Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive and reactive maintenance troubleshooting as required to resolve automation, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic issues on site machinery and equipment as determined by the Maintenance Shift Leader.
  • Ensure all work adheres to the sites HSEQ procedures, policies and standards.
  • Conduct task risk assessments (pre‑emptive and dynamic) and follow health, safety, and environmental policies.
  • Assist the Project Manager with the installation, commissioning, and modification of equipment.
  • Interpret technical drawings and documentation for troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Proactively manage contractors to ensure they can perform their duties in line with the business needs and policies.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and provide reports to the Maintenance Shift Leader. Follow the Management of Change process as required. Prepare and record information necessary to deliver project work in compliance with the Project Management Standard.
  • Attend safety, production and team meetings as required.
  • Work and communicate closely with other engineering teams and the production teams to ensure efficient operations.
  • Ensure detailed hand‑backs and hand‑overs are completed for every task and end of shift.
  • Identify, participate in and provide training identified by the business to meet legislation, enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Support Operations at other BrewDog sites occasionally if required.
  • Stand in for Maintenance Shift Leader as required.

Health & Safety
  • Ensure that health and safety guidelines and fire regulations are strictly adhered to at all times.
  • Comply with safe working practices as defined by BrewDog.
  • Complete online or face‑to‑face training as and when required.
  • Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of others who you may supervise or interact with on a day‑to‑day basis.
  • Report any accidents, incidents or near‑misses as soon as reasonably practicable.
General
  • Be aware of and adhere to BrewDog policies and the workplace code at all times.
  • Take part in crew reviews throughout the year.
  • Cooperate with other BrewDog departments to achieve a great experience for our customers, applicants, colleagues and contractors.
  • Attend training courses and complete online training modules as required to meet the requirements of the role.
  • Take responsibility for own personal development, seeking out opportunities to learn new skills.
  • Undertake any other duties as requested which are reasonably deemed to be within the scope of the role or necessary for the smooth running of the business.
  • Apply the BrewDog charter and behaviours to every aspect of the role at all times.
  • Protect and enhance the interests and reputation of BrewDog internally and externally.
About You
Qualifications & Specific Training
  • Level 3 (or recognised equivalent qualification) in an engineering discipline.
Experience
  • Proven experience in a maintenance role within the food and beverage or a similar high‑paced manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret technical documentation and drawings.
  • Hands‑on experience in troubleshooting and resolving mechanical, electrical and automation failures.
  • Knowledge of PLCs, automation systems and control systems is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with food safety standards, GMP and HACCP.
  • Delivery of capital and improvement projects to a recognised methodology is highly desirable.
Knowledge
  • Strong understanding of food safety regulations (e.g., HACCP) and industry best practices.
  • In‑depth knowledge of mechanical, electrical and automation systems.
  • Familiarity with Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for tracking maintenance activities and work orders.
Skills
  • Strong problem‑solving abilities and diagnostic skills.
  • Excellent team‑working and good communication skills (both verbal and written) to liaise effectively with production teams and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
