As a Maintenance Operative (Electrical Bias), you'll carry out first‑line maintenance, planned preventative tasks, and minor repairs on a wide range of electrical systems and equipment – from lighting and power to nurse call and fire detection systems. Every task you complete helps to keep our hospital environments safe, functional, and compliant for patients, visitors, and staff.

At GMS, you'll be part of a supportive and inclusive team that values teamwork, safety, and professional growth. This role offers excellent opportunities to develop your technical skills, gain experience across diverse healthcare settings, and take pride in knowing your work makes a real difference every day. In this varied and hands‑on role, you will:

Responsibilities
  • Carry out first‑line fault‑finding repairs, and checks on electrical plant and equipment.
  • Undertake Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks to ensure the safe and efficient operation of systems.
  • Assist with minor electrical installations and replacement works.
  • Record all maintenance work accurately using digital tools such as PDAs or CAFM systems.
  • Liaise with departments to arrange access to clinical and non‑clinical areas, minimising disruption to patient care.
  • Report defects or hazards promptly and work in full compliance with all Health & Safety and electrical regulations.
  • Maintain tools, materials, and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Support apprentices and colleagues, promoting teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement within the Estates department.

At Gloucestershire Managed Services (GMS), we're more than just a team – we're a community of skilled professionals providing essential support services across NHS hospitals in Gloucestershire. Whether it's maintenance, catering, or logistics, every one of us plays a part in keeping hospitals safe, functional, and ready for patient care.

You’ll be joining a collaborative, inclusive, and forward‑thinking Estates team where your contribution is valued, and your development is supported. We take pride in creating a positive and respectful working environment, offering opportunities to learn progress, and take on new challenges.

When you work with GMS, you're not just maintaining hospital buildings – you're helping to maintain the heart of patient care.
