Job summary

Marton Care Homes is seeking a Maintenance Operative to join Riverside View in Darlington. The role is permanent, part-time (15 hours per week) with occasional evenings and weekends, and involves maintaining the home’s exterior, facilities, and safety systems to support our residents.

We value warmth, reliability, and a positive attitude. Previous care-setting experience is a bonus, but personality and alignment with our compassionate culture matter most.

Qualifications

• Experience in building/facilities maintenance or similar role.
• Ability to report defects and log maintenance activity.
• Willingness to be on-call for emergencies.
• Organised, reliable and safety-conscious.
• Comfortable working in a care home environment.

Responsibilities

• Report and action any known defects to appliances, damaged furniture/equipment and hazards to the Home Manager.
• Maintain the home’s exterior and grounds, including cleaning and tidying sheds and waste areas.
• Clear snow and grit driveways, paths and access areas.
• Carry out decoration touch-ups to maintain high standards.
• Complete planned maintenance and log results per procedures.
• Record all maintenance tasks and use the Maintenance Book to log repairs.
• Assist/supervise deliveries and assist Contractors onsite.

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking someone who is:

• Report and action any known defects to appliances, damaged furniture / equipment and any other potential hazards to the Home Manager.
• Ensure the maintenance of the Home’s exterior, including:
  • Keep any sheds, utbuildings and areas in which waste is stored in a clean and tidy condition.
  • Clear snw and grit the drive, paths and any areas to which Residents, Visitors or Staff Members have access.
  • Where applicable, litter pick, cut the grass arund the building and tend to any flowerbeds, hanging baskets etc.
  • Clean all signs / lighting utside the Home
• Carry out any touching up or making good of decoration as and when required in order to maintain our high standards.
• Complete weekly Pre planned maintenances such as statutory compliance checks, Testing of the fire alarm system, and log results, weekly. Check call points, fire exits, door retaining devices and fire emergency lights, as specified in Company procedures.
• Complete and accurately record all Planned maintenance as required. (Please see PPM list)
• Ensure all ventilation units and lights are kept clean. Replace any defective light bulbs / diffusers.
• Test all portable appliances as specified in Company procedures. (If trained and competent)
• Test, and record, water temperatures, clean and chlorinate shower heads as specified in Company procedures.
• Maintain the homes “Maintenance Book” in which defects are logged and PPMS are recorded. Use this book to effect repairs/replacements daily. If unable to complete the task, please log with Helpdesk.
• Assist/supervise with deliveries to the Home. Monitor and sign off deliveries.
• Assist Contractors onsite.
