Job summary

Averill House Care Home in Newton Heath, Manchester, is seeking a Maintenance Officer to keep the home safe, well maintained and fully operational.

This hands-on role requires practical skills, the ability to work independently, and coordination with the Home Manager and team. The position is contracted to 30 hours per week, with DBS paid and benefits.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in maintenance, facilities or a similar role.
  • Good knowledge of general repairs, electrical and building maintenance.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
  • Understanding of health and safety procedures

  • Reliable, organised and able to problem solve

  • Carry out a wide range of maintenance tasks across the building and grounds.
  • Ensure equipment and systems are working safely and efficiently.
  • Support maintenance planning and contractor coordination.
  • Maintain a safe and well-functioning environment in line with health and safety standards.

About Averill House Care Home
Averill House Care Home is a 48 bed care home in Newton Heath, Manchester, specialising in residential dementia and nursing dementia care. The home provides a calm, supportive environment where residents are treated with dignity and encouraged to maintain their independence. As part of the team, you will work alongside an experienced care team, building meaningful relationships with residents and making a genuine difference to their daily lives.

Maintenance Officer Contract
  • Contracted to 30 hours per week
  • Paid DBS, pension, uniform provided
  • 5.6 weeks annual leave (based on a full time contract)
Role Overview

As a Maintenance Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring the home remains safe, well maintained and fully operational at all times. This is a hands on role with responsibility, where your practical skills and proactive approach will directly support the safety, comfort and overall environment.

You will carry out a wide range of maintenance tasks across the building and grounds, including repairs, inspections, installations and general upkeep. You will ensure equipment and systems are working safely and efficiently, identifying issues early and taking appropriate action.

Working closely with the Home Manager and wider team, you will support maintenance planning, compliance checks and contractor coordination where required. You will help maintain a well organised, safe and fully functional environment, ensuring all work is carried out in line with health and safety standards.
