Job summary

Planet Recruitment are looking for maintenance / facilities operatives to join our client in Oxford. This is a permanent full time opportunity.

Under the direction of the Deputy Building Manager, you will take a leading role in routine maintenance on the building fabric, equipment and plant not covered by University Estates Services. You will also assist in the daily operation of core services such as the autoclave and goods-in area, and may run these services during absences.

• Relevant trade qualification, e.g. plumbing, electrical, carpentry/joinery, decorating or building maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Assist Deputy Building & Facilities Manager in allocating repairs and maintenance tasks to the team or via external contractors.
• Undertake routine reactive and planned maintenance in the building (plumbing, decorating, fixtures and fittings).
• Provide reports on the condition of areas within the building (kitchens, meeting rooms, fire doors, lighting, lavatories).
• Read the building fire panel and isolate areas/detectors when required; inform security and Fire & Rescue Service if needed.

This is a permanent full time opportunity.

Under the direction of the Deputy Building Manager, you will be expected to take a leading role in routine maintenance on the building fabric, equipment and plant that is not covered by University Estates Services. You will also be responsible for assisting in the daily operation of core services such as the autoclave and goods-in area. In the absence of the personnel primarily responsible for these areas you will be expected to be able to run these services for short periods of time

Key duties

• Assist Deputy Building & Facilities Manager in the allocation of repairs and maintenance tasks to the facilities team or by using external contractors.
• Undertake routine reactive and planned maintenance in the building as required (plumbing, painting, decorating, fixtures and fittings).
• Undertake inspections and provide reports to the Deputy Building & Facilities Manager in the form of short documents or verbally on the condition of areas within the building such as; review of kitchen areas, shared meeting rooms, condition of fire doors, glass washing facilities, performance of lavatories, communal lighting around the building, general decoration etc.
• Be able to read the building fire panel, isolating areas or detectors in case of Hot Works Permit and in the case of an alarm advise both security and the Fire & Rescue Service, if necessary.

Desirable Skills

Relevant trade qualification, e.g. plumbing, electrical, carpentry/joinery, decorating or building maintenance.

Practical experience across a range of maintenance trades, including basic plumbing, carpentry/joinery, decorating and building-fabric repairs.

Knowledge or experience of monitoring water hygiene/Legionella , emergency lighting and routine fire-safety checks.

Experience of PPM programmes and computerised/electronic maintenance management systems.

Experience of maintaining historic, listed or heritage buildings.

Experience within a college, university, school, hotel, residential, hospitality or similarly occupied estate.

Basic repairs and maintenance experience required.

Experience in a similar role advantageous.

You will also be expected to be actively involved in the on-call rota with the Building & Facilities Manager and the Deputy Building & Facilities Manager.
