A local government authority in the Vale of Glamorgan seeks a Maintenance Officer to oversee the maintenance and safety of surface water drainage assets. About us The above posts exist within the Vale of Glamorgan’s Neighbourhood Services and Transport Department which comprises interlinked service areas of Neighbourhood Services Operations, Engineering and Transport.
All these service areas feature large, high profile, front-line operations delivering various functions directly to citizens of, and visitors to, the Vale of Glamorgan.
The Neighbourhood Services Operations team are responsible for managing and maintaining the public highway to a standard that ensures they are safe and passable by the public.
The team are also responsible for managing maintenance works and ensuring all adopted drainage assets are regularly inspected and cleansed with flooding issues investigated and resolved, therefore we are looking to recruit a suitably qualified and experienced officer within the team to undertake these works.
The Council is looking to specifically appoint someone who can liaise with internal colleagues,members of public and elected members to ensure good communication throughout, whilst ensuring the surface water drainage network is well managed.

About the role Pay Details: Grade 7 spinal point 20-25 £32,597 - £36,363 Hours of Work / Working Pattern: 37hrs/52 weeks Main Place of Work: Alps Depot, Wenvoe Temporary Reason: N/A Description: The Vale of Glamorgan Council has approx. 21,000 surface water gullies that we are responsible for maintaining and the role will primarily be required to attend site and ensure the surface water assets are safe, regularly maintained and free of obstructions.
Similarly, within the rural Vale where surface water assets are traditionally in the form of grips and ditches, specialist plant and drivers are used to clear under suitable Chapter 8 traffic management to ensure safe working practices of our workforce and the public.
The Maintenance Officer role will primarily be required to engage with all stakeholders when coordinating works on the adopted highway in accordance with the Highways Act 1980 and Traffic Management Act 2004 and the role is to supervise other highway maintenance works undertaken by in-house teams or contractors.
The role will maintain, investigate, solve and supervise drainage/ditching works across the Vale of Glamorgan to provide solutions to assist with highway and other land flooding prevention.
The role is to also assist with the ongoing development of the Neighbourhood Services asset management systems and to manage the Council’s non illuminated street furniture assets, such as bollards, benches and bus shelters and we are seeking an officer to arrange any maintenance works where required.
