YMCA Fairthorne Group is seeking a practical and proactive facilities maintenance person to manage caretaking duties across multiple sites. You will carry out reactive and planned maintenance, support safety checks, and help ensure spaces remain safe, compliant and welcoming for residents and activities.
The role requires hands-on skills across building maintenance, good IT use for records, and a UK driving licence with willingness to travel between sites.
Every YMCA service relies on the spaces where it happens. Homes that feel safe. Community facilities that are welcoming.
Buildings that are compliant.
Gardens that are cared for.
And environments where young people, colleagues and visitors can feel comfortable and secure.
This role is about much more than fixing things when they break. It's about taking pride in our buildings and creating environments that people can rely on. Working across our charity's estate, you'll carry out reactive and planned maintenance, support health and safety compliance, maintain grounds and communal areas, and help ensure our properties consistently meet statutory, mandatory and legal requirements. You'll work closely with the Facilities Management Team and colleagues across the organisation to keep our buildings operating safely and effectively every day.
You’ll:
Success in this role isn't always measured by major refurbishment projects. Often it's the smaller things that make the biggest difference. A repair completed before it becomes a larger issue. A room prepared quickly for a new member. A safety check completed thoroughly. A community room ready for an important event. Or a building that simply works exactly as it should. Your work will help create environments where YMCA services can thrive.
We’re looking for a practical and proactive individual who takes pride in maintaining high standards and enjoys solving problems.
You’ll have:
A First Aid at Work qualification would be desirable, although training can be provided. Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and qualifications such as IOSH or NEBOSH would also be advantageous.
Most importantly, you’ll be:
25 days' annual leave plus Bank Holidays FTE, increasing with service up to 30 days, with the option to buy additional leave.
An additional day each year to celebrate something important to you.
Access to our Health Cash Plan and Employee Assistance Programme.
Enhanced family leave provisions.
Blue Light Card eligibility, gym discounts and Cycle to Work scheme.
Training and professional development opportunities across YMCA Fairthorne Group.
