Goodman Masson are currently working with a social housing organisation in Sussex to recruit for an interim Maintenance Manager.

Rate – £350 – £425 inside IR35 umbrella

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Maintenance Manager to lead our responsive repairs, estate cleaning, and maintenance teams. This is a high-profile role within a well-established housing organisation, offering the opportunity to shape services that directly impact tenants’ homes and communities.

You will be responsible for ensuring properties and communal areas are safe, well-maintained, and compliant with relevant legislation, including Homes Fit For Human Habitation and other consumer standards. You will lead a team of multi-disciplinary professionals, oversee contractors, and manage budgets, while driving service improvements and delivering excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a team delivering responsive repairs, cleaning, clearance, voids, and garage services.
  • Oversee contractor performance, ensuring compliance with contracts and value-for-money service delivery.
  • Manage multi-million-pound budgets, authorise invoices, and maintain financial control.
  • Ensure maintenance, repairs, and safety standards comply with legislation and best practice.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to improve service quality.
  • Oversee resident engagement, complaints management, and scrutiny processes.
  • Support strategic planning and contribute to senior management decision-making.
  • Lead on internal audits, reporting, and regulatory compliance.
Person Specification

  • Strong leadership and team management skills across multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to manage large-scale maintenance projects and multi-million-pound budgets.

  • Legislation relevant to social landlords, including health and safety and landlord/tenant law.
Qualifications
  • Professional qualification (RICS preferred, CIOB or equivalent considered).
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Degree in a construction-related discipline desirable.
  • Housing management qualification (Level 4 or higher) desirable.
Experience
  • Proven experience in housing repairs, maintenance, and service delivery.
