Job summary

Morrisons is seeking a skilled Maintenance Engineer for our manufacturing site to maintain, repair and improve tooling systems across production lines. The role focuses on reducing downtime and maximizing efficiency by performing preventive maintenance and timely repairs.

Reporting to the Engineering Department Manager, you will collaborate with production teams, uphold safety standards and keep meticulous records of all maintenance activities.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
  • ONC mechanical/electrical engineering qualification.
  • BTEC Level 3 in mechanical & electrical beneficial.
  • Strong knowledge of production equipment in FMCG, with focus on tooling systems.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair industrial machinery.
  • Proactive maintenance mindset and reliability focus.
  • Excellent communication and decisive problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance of tooling systems to prevent disruptions.
  • Perform repairs or coordinate with external specialists when necessary.
  • Carry out adjustments and support changeovers to maximise production line efficiency.
  • Monitor and calibrate equipment to ensure accuracy, quality and safety.
  • Collaborate with production teams to identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, including schedules, repairs and spare parts inventory.
  • Adhere to health and safety guidelines and company policies.
  • Stay updated with industry advancements and new technologies relevant to the role.

Job description

Working Monday - Friday Our sites are ever-demanding, complex and in some cases operate 24 hours a day - so it's vital we have a strong Engineering team who ensure our machines work to the best of their ability, so we can continue to provide great products to our customers. As part of our Maintenance Engineering team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our Manufacturing site.

You will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and improvement of our machinery and equipment, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum efficiency. This is a hands‑on role working closely with the production team with a focus on the service and maintenance of tooling systems across various production lines.

Reporting to an Engineering Department Manager your responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance of tooling systems, identifying and resolving any potential issues before they cause disruptions
  • Perform repairs or coordinate with external specialists when necessary
  • Carry out adjustments and support changeovers to maximise production line efficiency and minimise downtime
  • Monitor and calibrate equipment to ensure accuracy, quality, and safety standards are met
  • Collaborate with production teams to identify opportunities for process improvement and provide technical expertise to enhance productivity
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, including maintenance schedules, repairs, and spare parts inventory
  • Adhere to health and safety guidelines and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Stay updated with industry advancements and new technologies relevant to the role

As well as the ability to work at pace, we're also looking for someone who has: Qualifications to NVQ level 3 (or equivalent, ONC mechanical/electrical engineering, BTEC level 3 in mechanical & electrical) Strong knowledge of production equipment used in the FMCG industry with a specific focus on tooling systems Proficient in troubleshooting and repairing industrial machinery - specifically tooling systems Proactive approach to maintenance and a commitment to ensuring the highest levels of equipment reliability Excellent communication skills Assertiveness with the ability to make decisions on the spot A can do attitude and a strong work ethic
