Qualifications

Job description

Pinnacle Group are looking to recruit an experienced Maintenance Engineer to lead the delivery of high‑quality mechanical and electrical services across a patch of schools in Exeter. With a bias in either mechanical or electrical engineering, you will oversee planned and reactive maintenance activities, ensure compliance with contractual and statutory requirements, and support a safe, reliable learning environment for staff and students. This is a hands‑on leadership role where technical expertise, strong coordination skills, and a proactive approach to problem‑solving are essential.

Our Total Facilities Management team delivers integrated asset management and maintenance services across education, leisure, corporate, health and residential sectors.We focus on keeping facilities running smoothly, safely, and efficiently – helping our clients create spaces that work for everyone.

This is a full time role with an alternating shift pattern of 8AM-4PM and 9AM-5PM between Monday-Friday.

Key responsibilities
  • Directly manage and lead a team of multi-skilled engineers (electrical and mechanical) and on-site caretaking staff.
  • Oversee and sign off on the Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedule to ensure all site assets remain compliant and operational.
  • Act as the primary focal point for external contractors, ensuring they follow Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) and hold appropriate risk assessments and work permits.
  • Maintain site files and technical records to ensure all health, safety, and statutory requirements are met.
  • Provide technical guidance to technicians for fault finding and reactive repairs to minimize site downtime.
  • Use Computer-Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) systems to track, close, and report on maintenance tasks and KPIs.
Key requirements
  • Proven experience managing teams in a multi-site or large-scale public sector environment, such as schools or healthcare facilities.
  • Recognized Mechanical or Electrical qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
  • Strong knowledge of Health & Safety regulations, including risk assessments, COSHH, and CDM regulations.
  • Proven experience in building services maintenance, ideally within education, healthcare, PFI, or other compliance‑heavy environments.
  • Due to the school setting, candidates must possess or be willing to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
