Job description

Are you an experienced engineer looking for a role where your skills make a real difference? Join an Estates team within the NHS and help maintain and improve essential systems that keep patients safe and comfortable.

This is a hands-on role with variety—covering maintenance, installations, and fault-finding across plumbing, heating, and ventilation systems. You’ll work both on-site at the hospital and occasionally travel to community clinics managed by Royal Primary Care.

What You’ll Do
  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on plumbing, heating, and ventilation systems.
  • Undertake major installations and alterations, including pipework, valves, AHU coils, and pump sets.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex engineering issues using Building Management Systems.
  • Train for specialist roles such as Boiler House Operator and hydrotherapy pool maintenance.
  • Supervise junior staff and mentor apprentices.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and industry standards.
  • Participate in the on-call rota and deputise for the team leader when required.
What We’re Looking For
  • NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing/Heating or equivalent experience.
  • Strong experience with commercial heating, plumbing, and ventilation systems.
  • Ability to fault-find quickly and effectively.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Flexible, motivated, and committed to continuous learning.

Desirable:
Experience as a Competent Person in Medical Gas, Ventilation, or Water systems, plus additional skills in areas such as gas, refrigeration, or BMS.
