Job summary

Dunraven Recruitment Ltd in West Bromwich is seeking a Maintenance Engineer for a 3 months contract to support a busy food manufacturing site. You will respond to breakdowns, diagnose faults, and perform electrical and mechanical repairs across conveyors, pumps, motors and control panels.

You will also carry out CMMS work orders, participate in RCA activities, and support production restart while adhering to safety and Permit to Work procedures.

Qualifications

• Experience in FMCG/food manufacturing or high-volume environments.
• Proven ability to diagnose faults and respond to breakdowns.
• Experience with CMMS to manage maintenance work orders.
• Desirable: ATEX inspection knowledge.
• Desirable: PLC fault-finding and control systems experience.

Responsibilities

• Respond to breakdown calls as first responder on shift.
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults independently.
• Carry out emergency repairs under Lead Engineer direction.
• Perform fault-finding on PLCs, sensors, drives and control panels.
• Carry out mechanical repairs including bearings, gearboxes, conveyors and pumps.
• Carry out electrical repairs including motors, starters, switchgear and wiring faults.
• Isolate and reinstate equipment under Permit to Work procedures.
• Complete CMMS work orders with accurate fault descriptions.
• Support RCA investigations with technical input.
• Assist production restart and sign-off of equipment for return to service.
• Execute PPM work orders assigned by Lead Engineer.
• Carry out condition monitoring including vibration, thermal imaging and lubrication.
• Perform electrical testing including insulation resistance, earth continuity and PAT.
• Inspect and maintain control panels, junction boxes and cable runs.

Key Maintenance Engineer Responsibilities

• Respond to breakdown calls as the first responder on shift
• Diagnose faults across mechanical and electrical/instrumentation systems independently
• Carry out emergency repairs safely under Lead Engineer direction
• Perform fault-finding on PLCs, sensors, drives and control panels
• Carry out mechanical repairs including bearings, gearboxes, conveyors and pumps
• Carry out electrical repairs including motors, starters, switchgear and wiring faults
• Safely isolate and reinstate equipment under Permit to Work procedures
• Complete CMMS breakdown work orders with accurate fault descriptions and actions taken
• Provide technical input to Lead Engineer during RCA investigations
• Support production restart and sign off equipment for return to service

Required Maintenance Engineer Experience

Essential Experience

• Strong hands-on mechanical and electrical engineering experience
• Experience working within FMCG, food manufacturing or high-volume manufacturing
• Strong experience responding to breakdowns and diagnosing equipment faults independently
• Experience with mechanical equipment including bearings, gearboxes, conveyors and pumps
• Experience with electrical equipment including motors, starters, switchgear and wiring
• Experience using a CMMS to complete maintenance work orders and update asset records

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

• City & Guilds Level 2 or equivalent engineering qualification
• Mechanical and Electrical/E&I engineering qualification
• Experience with PLC fault-finding and control systems
• Experience with vibration monitoring, thermal imaging and lubrication-based condition monitoring
• Experience with ATEX equipment and hazardous-area inspections
• Experience with RCA and corrective actions
• Experience with 5-Why / Fishbone RCA
• Experience working within a BRCGS-accredited food manufacturing environment
