Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a fast-paced FMCG manufacturing environment.
  • Strong ability to read technical manuals and engineering drawings.
  • Sound understanding of H&S and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventive maintenance (PPM), breakdown repairs, and capital project work.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Project teams to meet operational goals.
  • Implement improvements to enhance reliability, efficiency, and product quality.

Job description

Our client is a well-established UK food manufacturer operating one of the most advanced production facilities in the industry. They are now looking to recruit talented and experienced Single Skilled and Multi-Skilled Engineers to join their day-shift engineering team at their Wisbech site.

This role plays a vital part in maintaining and improving site performance, ensuring operational efficiency, and supporting a culture of continuous improvement. You will be responsible for maintaining site assets across mechanical, electrical, and process systems while ensuring compliance with all statutory, health & safety, and food quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
Safety, Quality & Compliance
  • Adhere strictly to all Health & Safety procedures including Lockout/Tagout and Permit to Work systems.
  • Ensure all work meets statutory, quality, and food safety standards (GMP, HACCP, etc.).
  • Conduct and act on risk assessments to promote a safe working environment.
  • Support a culture of proactive safety awareness and continuous improvement.
Engineering & Operations
  • Carry out planned preventive maintenance (PPM), breakdown repairs, and capital project work.
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed, ensuring root cause fixes are implemented.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Project teams to meet operational goals.
  • Assist in training and development of team members, supporting a high-performance culture.
Continuous Improvement
  • Identify and implement improvements to enhance reliability, efficiency, and product quality.
  • Participate in CI initiatives including 5S, GMP, and waste reduction activities.
  • Contribute to site projects aimed at improving asset performance and reducing downtime.
Communication & Collaboration
  • Provide clear and accurate handovers between shifts.
  • Liaise effectively with internal teams and external contractors to ensure work is completed efficiently.
  • Work closely with the Engineering Stores team to ensure parts and materials are available.
What We're Looking For
  • Time-served apprenticeship in Engineering (Multi-Skilled preferred) with NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in a fast-paced FMCG manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills, including PLC fault-finding.
  • Experience using CMMS systems (preferably SAP).
  • Sound understanding of H&S and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to read technical manuals and engineering drawings.
  • A proactive, self-motivated individual with excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
