Role and location
ASRS Engineer
Location: Magor – South Wales
Salary: £51,625.42 per annum
Shift Pattern: 2 x 12 hour day shifts (07:00–19:00), 2 x 12 hour night shifts (19:00–07:00), followed by 4 days off
The Role
The main purpose of this position is to carry out planned and reactive maintenance in support of the Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS). This role is vital for the efficiency, quality and cost of the plant. The ASRS Engineer will look to improve the reliability and safety of the plant and production processes from a mechanical and electrical perspective.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Mechanical and Electrical Maintenance, including
- Working in a safe manner following all company policies and procedures
- Undertake, drive and support maintenance and improvement activities
- Identify CI opportunities
- Developing SOPs and learning documents to share best practice across shifts with respect to maintenance and CIL
- Developing safety, and maintenance procedures
- Liaise with suppliers of OEM’s for the provision of spares/services
- Support the development and maintenance of a high performance, flexible and “can do” culture
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance
- Machinery fault diagnosis and repairs
- Use of Plant Optimisation tools to ensure sustainability of high departmental standards including 5S, Hygiene and PDCA
- Undertake, drive and support maintenance and improvement activities
- Share best practice across shifts with respect to maintenance and CIL
- Review and develop safety and maintenance procedures (SWI)
- Record all maintenance activities within maintenance management system (SAP)
- Maintenance prioritisation and planning
- Analyse machines to improve performance
- Identify critical spares for designated machines
- Refurbish spares as required
- Complete some work at heights, confined space & as a lone worker
- Project work
- Carrying out quality inspections on jobs
- Liaising & assisting client departments and customers
- Controlling maintenance tools, stores and equipment
- Monitoring and controlling maintenance costs
- Ensure all safety systems are in working order
Who we’re looking for
Experience & Qualifications
- Recognised engineering qualification (HNC or equivalent in electrical)
- Mechanical qualification (NVQ 3/equivalent or experience)
- FLT license (desirable)
- Experience in FMCG or logistics operations
- Strong fault-finding and maintenance skills
- Background in a multi-disciplined engineering role
- Excellent understanding of manufacturing principles and tools
- Good numeracy, literacy, and verbal communication skills
Skills, Knowledge & Competencies
- Strong focus on health, safety, hygiene, and 5S standards
- Proactive, self-managed, and positive “can-do” attitude
- Good communication skills and pride in work quality
- Comfortable working with external contractors
- Knowledge of LEAN, Continuous Improvement (CI), HACCP, and food safety protocols
- Support for VPO compliance, sustainability, and a learning organisation
- Strong numerical analysis and IT skills
- Able to make decisions, challenge when needed, and work independently
- High level of teamwork and organisation
- Ability to work in a structured, systematic way and meet deadlines
