Job description

Location; Wolverhampton

We are working with a fast-growing, own-brand tissue-converting manufacturer operating within the FMCG sector, producing toilet tissue, kitchen towel and facial tissue for some of the UK’s biggest retailers. The site runs a 24/7, high-speed converting and packaging environment with a strong focus on reliability, quality and continued investment, and the business is now building a second site nearby to add further capacity. This is a great opportunity for a Maintenance Engineer who is looking for a stable, expanding employer with a large engineering team around them.

We are looking for 6 enigneer's these are new roles created by growth, not replacements. Working on a continental days and nights pattern, you will look after the packaging lines that sit downstream of the converting lines, carrying out planned and reactive maintenance on wrapping, bundling, case packing, palletising and conveyor equipment. Following an initial training period on days to learn the plant, you will move onto the agreed shift pattern with your salary set from day one, so there are no surprises later on.

The role would suit a multi-skilled engineer with either a mechanical or electrical bias from a fast-moving manufacturing background such as FMCG, packaging, corrugated or cardboard, textiles or batch-process production. With several engineers joining at the same time, you will be part of a new intake with the chance to shape how the team works, backed by long-serving colleagues who know the plant inside out.

Responsibilities of a Maintenance Engineer:
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance on high-speed packaging line equipment to keep downtime to a minimum
  • Respond to breakdowns on wrapping, bundling, case packing, palletising and conveyor systems, diagnosing faults and returning lines to production quickly
  • Complete mechanical repairs including bearings, gearboxes, pneumatics, belts, chains and drives, with electrical fault‑finding as required
  • Work with production teams to improve line performance and reduce repeat faults
  • Support the installation and commissioning of new equipment as the business continues to invest and expand
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and follow all health and safety and food‑contact hygiene standards
  • Work as part of a large, mixed-experience engineering team across a 24/7 operation
Skills & Qualifications of a Maintenance Engineer:
  • Recognised mechanical or electrical engineering qualification (Apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, ONC/HNC or equivalent)
  • Proven maintenance experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment – FMCG, packaging, corrugated, textiles or batch‑process backgrounds are particularly well suited
  • Strong mechanical fault‑finding skills with the confidence to work on high‑speed automated equipment
  • Basic electrical competence, with the ability to isolate safely and assist with electrical faults
  • Experience of packaging machinery, conveyors or tissue converting is desirable but not essential – full plant training is provided
Benefits of a Maintenance Engineer:
  • Salary: £54,000 - rotating days and nights £60,000 Nights only
  • Shift pattern, will be a continental pattern working 12 hour days and nights, with an initial training period on days
  • New roles created by expansion, with a second site opening nearby – long‑term stability and growth
  • Join a new intake of engineers alongside an experienced, well‑established team
  • Full training on the plant and packaging equipment, with progression as the business grows
  • Overtime available across a 24/7 operation
  • Company pension and enhanced holiday entitlement
