With opportunities across operations, engineering, logistics, sales and our head office support functions, there are many ways to develop your career with Elis.

The Opportunity

We're looking for a skilled, hands-on Engineer to join our team at our Northfleet site, playing an important role in keeping our operation running safely, efficiently and reliably.

Working within our Engineering team, you'll support the performance and reliability of our site, machinery and equipment through planned and preventative maintenance, breakdown repairs, fault-finding and remedial engineering works.

This is a varied engineering role within a fast-paced operational environment where your technical knowledge and problem-solving skills can make a genuine difference. You'll work closely with our operational teams to minimise downtime, improve equipment performance and help keep our site moving.

You’ll also have the opportunity to contribute ideas, support site improvements and develop your skills as part of a business that believes in investing in its people.

What You’ll Be Doing
Your Responsibilities Will Include
  • Keeping our operation moving – Carry out planned, preventative and reactive maintenance across site machinery, equipment and infrastructure to maximise reliability and minimise downtime.
  • Fault-finding and problem-solving – Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults, identify root causes and implement effective repairs and solutions safely and efficiently.
  • Maintaining our assets – Help ensure our equipment and site infrastructure are maintained to a high standard and operating as efficiently as possible.
  • Improving performance – Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, efficiency and overall site performance.
  • Working with Operations – Build strong relationships with Production and other site teams, responding to engineering requirements and communicating effectively when issues arise.
  • Putting safety first – Ensure engineering activities are carried out in line with site Health & Safety requirements, safe systems of work and relevant engineering standards.
  • Maintaining high standards – Complete inspections, PPM records and engineering documentation accurately using our CMMS system.
  • Supporting improvement projects – Contribute to equipment upgrades, remedial works and wider engineering projects that improve the operation for the future.
What We’re Looking For

We're looking for a practical Engineer who enjoys getting to the root of a problem and working in a busy operational environment.

You’ll Ideally Bring
  • Engineering experience – Around 3 years' experience within a manufacturing, production or process-driven environment.
  • Multi-skilled capability – Strong practical mechanical and electrical engineering skills.
  • Technical knowledge – Experience working with areas such as electrical circuits, pneumatics and hydraulics.
  • Fault-finding expertise – A logical and methodical approach to diagnosing problems, with the ability to interpret relevant engineering drawings and schematics.
  • A proactive approach – Self-motivated, comfortable making decisions and able to react quickly to operational requirements.
  • A safety-first mindset – An understanding of safe engineering practices and the importance of identifying and communicating potential risks.
  • Strong communication and teamwork – The ability to build effective working relationships with Engineering, Production and colleagues across the wider site.
  • Attention to detail – Comfortable maintaining accurate PPM and maintenance records using a CMMS system.
  • Flexibility – Willingness to occasionally travel to other Elis locations or external training facilities when required.
Great to Have

You don't need to tick every box. Experience or qualifications in any of the following would be an advantage:

  • Engineering NVQ Level 3 or 4, BTEC, City & Guilds, HND or equivalent
  • An apprentice-trained engineering background
  • Industrial laundry or another high-volume production environment
  • Steam systems and chemical water treatment, including BG01 or BOAS accreditation
  • Water networks and heat recovery systems
  • Electronic component fault-finding and testing
  • BS 7671 IET Wiring Regulations
  • Inspection and Testing – City & Guilds 2391-52
  • Fabrication and welding
  • Permit to Work (PTW), risk assessment and contractor control
  • Legionella control and ACOP L8
