Job description

Maintenance Engineer

£48,000

4 on / 4 off

Newport

Are you a hands‑on engineer with a passion for continuous improvement?

We’re looking for a Maintenance Engineer to join a leading food manufacturing business based in Newport. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a dedicated engineering team driving reliability and efficiency across production operations.

The Role

You’ll work as part of the site’s Engineering Team on a 4 on / 4 off shift pattern (days and nights), supporting the delivery of planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs.

This role plays a key part in developing and implementing a new Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) approach — helping to reduce downtime, improve performance, and ensure the smooth running of all production equipment.

What will you be doing?
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs on a wide range of equipment.
  • Diagnose faults, test, and maintain mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Lead shift‑based problem solving where corrective actions aren’t clear.
  • Use the CMMS system to log work, analyse historical data, and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Support continuous improvement through TPM, root cause analysis, and 5S initiatives.
  • Ensure all work complies with health, safety, hygiene, and quality standards.
