Job summary

A leading food manufacturing company in Colchester is seeking a dedicated Maintenance Engineer. You will support the running of a new factory by conducting reactive and preventative maintenance, ensuring food safety and minimizing downtime. Ideal candidates have strong experience in electrical repairs and food processing equipment. This role offers an hourly rate of £21 with a 4-on, 4-off shift pattern.

Qualifications

Maintenance Engineer - Food Manufacturing

The Role

We are a leading food manufacturing company seeking a skilled and proactive Maintenance Engineer to primarily support the running of our new factory. The core mission is resolving equipment breakdowns and delivering essential planned maintenance. Secondly, the role involves driving site improvement through work on new machinery, modifications, and performance enhancements.

You will be responsible for ensuring all maintenance work (reactive and preventative) is carried out to the highest possible standards across the whole site. You are expected to carry out all maintenance across the factory during contracted hours, or out of hours if necessary.

Key Responsibilities and Focus Areas
  • Reactive and Preventative Maintenance (PPM): Carry out both planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance as required.

  • Minimizing Downtime: Actively work to minimize plant downtime resulting from both mechanical and electrical failures.

  • Fault Finding: Perform skilled fault finding, particularly electrical fault finding and repair.

  • Food Safety Priority: Ensure the achievement of food safety is always a priority in your work.

  • Site Safety: Ensure the site is Electrically and Mechanically safe.

  • Improvements: Drive improvement across the site in terms of new machinery, modifications, and performance.

Required Skill Set and Experience (Knowledge in - Advantage)

Candidates should possess the necessary skill set and experience, with advantageous knowledge in areas including:

  • Electrical fault finding and repair

  • Food processing equipment

  • Pneumatics

  • Conveyors

  • Motors

  • Bearings

  • Isolators

Compensation and Hours
  • Hourly Rate: £21/hour (Approx £44,000)

  • Working Hours:

    • 4-on, 4-off Shift: 06:30 to 18:00 hrs
