Job description
Maintenance Engineer (Food Manufacturing)

£60,000+ Benefits

If you enjoy the kind of engineering role where no two hours - let alone two days - look the same, this might be worth a look.

A large-scale food manufacturer in North London is looking for a Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer to help keep their operation running smoothly. It's fast-paced, noisy, and full of kit that really doesn't like being ignored - so if you like being where the action is, you'll fit right in.

You'll be working a 4 on 4 off pattern, rotating between days and nights, and you'll be one of the key people keeping production going.

This isn't a role where you'll simply be reacting to breakdowns. They want someone who can spot issues before they become incidents, challenge the status quo, and push continuous improvement rather than wait for someone else to pick up the clipboard.

What you'll be doing:
  • Getting hands-on with automation, electrical and mechanical issues the moment they arise.
  • Delivering planned maintenance and making sure it actually adds value.
  • Leading and supporting improvement projects.
  • Helping drive performance KPIs such as OEE and waste reduction.
  • Keeping safety at the centre of everything, even when the pressure is on.
What you'll need:
  • Solid communication skills — you'll be speaking with operators, engineers, and shift leaders across day and night shifts
  • Experience training others or passing on knowledge
  • A proactive approach - someone who doesn't wait until the third breakdown of the night to fix the thing that caused the first
  • An electrical bias is preferred (time-served apprenticeship, experienced worker route, or NVQ Level 3 minimum)
  • HNC in Electrical, Automation or Multi-Skilled Engineering would be a bonus
  • Motivated, adaptable, and comfortable in a busy food manufacturing environment
What's on offer:
  • £60,000+ annual salary (DOE)
  • 4 on 4 off rotating days and nights
  • A busy, modern production site where your work actually has impact
  • The chance to be part of a team that values continuous improvement — not just the posters on the wall telling you about it

If you want a role where your problem-solving skills, practical mindset, and engineering know-how genuinely matter, this could be a strong fit.
